A word or two about the driveability of the IMT in bumper to bumper traffic was missed. Is the clutch release on the IMT just as smooth as a manual? How does the IMT handle slow launch on incline? Also, a word of caution, clutch plates on dry DCTs are often considered as 'consumables' and may need a replacement earlier than a clutch in manual. You guys should have addressed these things

The final verdict is IMTs are more reliable than DCTs. The minimum cost to replace a dct gearbox is around a lac or more. The internal clutch plates of a dct are equally costly. So either go for a traditional automatic transmission or a torque converter if you want that one hand free or go for IMT

For city only CVT are best. For highway/less crowded manual/IMT best. Enthusiastic people with cash can have dct. But for me, if you stay in city offen goes on highway get yourself a torque converter.

An IMT is going to mess up your muscle memory .Going back to the usual manual after habituating IMT you will grinde those gears for sure . Adding paddle shifters to the DCT is a far better option than an IMT for those immediate downshifts.

But the DCT do have a sports mode which enable you to downshift and upshift in order to overtake right?? The video could have been more informative on day to day driving scenarios that a person can face while opting between the two gearboxes.

@@abhishek.s86 One can do anything with MT. Overtaking a car is so quick. Driving at inclined roads or hills is so much fun, never required those hill start/stop button. Good driver knows how much clutch needs to pressed to climb those.

Manual is pretty much the best option in terms of reliability. Next up would be the iMT. The DCT *WILL* fail. It may not happen today or tommorow but it will happen eventually. Especially in India where you have to creep in bumper to bumper traffic on a super hot day. And there really is not that much advantage for the DCT in this segment. Sure it shifts quick..so what? It's a small cSUV not a racecar. Moreover it's jerky in traffic and will cost a bomb to repair when it fails. If VW cannot completely make the DSG reliable even after a decade, I don't expect Hyundai to do it in a few years.

This pair of hosts is good 👍🏻I test drove imt sonet recently, Hesitantly! The moment car started rolling I was all adapted , comfortable and feeling at home. Its that friendly to first timer 👌🏻I think its here to stay

@@harshitrakhiani8833 completely depends on your willingness. If clutch is the only issue then go for iMT. If you want it all auto- if you are a moped guy xD go for Auto.

I have Sonet iMT. I feel lag in first and second gear because of which I have to plan my overtakes everytime. They are a bit slow.

Hi team, late to the party, but loved the video. I have narrowed down to IMT and DCT and the venue and Sonet. My query is around 1- whether the DCT will be reliable in bumper to bumper traffic like blore where you have to take every opportunity to advance (I get that if I give space it will be fine, but if I need to reach office within 2 hours I need to creep as much as possible). In such conditions will the DCT be fine or will it wear out quickly. 2 - how jerky is the imt compared to a manual if you learn to use it well and what are its weak points (I have noted people saying issues in 1st and 2nd gear). Anyone with long term ownership (more than a year) of either car in Bangalore pitching in would be really helpful.

One point stated wring, iMT has higher maintenance cost 50-60 k km done and be ready for overhaul of gearbox including change of clutch plates DCT and TC will not have any issue even after you drive it for 2 lakh Km

6:28 That 0.1 kmpl difference though, that's if the gears are shifted ideally. I can't imagine the non-petrolhead average dude knowing or caring about shifting at the appropriate time. In practice, I feel the DCT may edge out or at the very least draw level with the iMT That being said, I never found the clutch cumbersome, and I'd rather have that or the DCT any day... Basically full manuals are the best on the highway and DCTs are best for the city...

Hi Guys, Once again a good video. Lot many people might be thinking which gearbox should they go for in sonet or venue and you guys made their life easy. In terms of which one is faster imt vs DCT, I feel Hyundai’s dct is not as good as the one from VW so that is where dct variant in Hyundai is slower than imt.

Some drivers used to rest their hands on top of the gear lever while driving, does this confuse the intention sensor ?

I am not sure but I don't think it engages clutch as you put hand on the gear lever

I believe it should engage either when you put off foot from accelerator and try to push gear lever, if I am not wrong, now gear lever will have two-staged shift while shifting, so at about 1-2 inches it will engage the clutch and at next 1-2 it will shift the gear and once you are getting back the lever to middle it will release the clutch

IMT is a mid step towards automatic from manual, not the full step. I would prefer Full AT i,e Torque Converter considering im not worrying about mileage. The overheating of DCT in bumper traffic worries me

So incase of the IMT it's assumed that it has an auto clutch right ? So what are the chances of escalated costs and high breakdown charges 4-5 years hence?

There's not an auto clutch but an actuator so if actuator or sensor gone need to to spend like around 20k to 30k

It's just a sensor which tells a computer to engage the clutch . Max 15 k .

Great video and very informative but one thing: did you guys factored in the point of clutch assembly replacement charges, because clutch being controlled by the TCU rather than a person often reduces the clutch life.

Screw iMT, DCT, AMT, Torque Converter, or any other automatic. I'd pick a Manual transmission with a Clutch Pedel at the left foot. I Decide when to shift, not some algorithm.

What is the mileage in Sonet HTK PLUS DCT PETROL...IN City AND ON HIGHWAY...ANY OTHER ISSUES ARE THERE SUCH AS HEATING IN DCT VARIENT.

Thanks a lot guys for the great video. Looked like you guys had a lot of fun. Now to the question, Present DCT versions in Sonet have got paddle shifters... Wouldn't that be enough to get the gears up or down?? Forgeting the cost factor, just based on comfort and ease of driving, especially in Bangalore traffic (hopefully once this Covid situation is done). would DCT be better than iMT?

Hi, DCTs also come with a manual mode with a (+/-) button that enable you to change gears, do they not? It takes a while to get used to but is a nifty feature when you need it. Or is it not present in this car? To be honest, I've found the S mode itself good enough to tackle the ghats and quick overtaking needs. Thanks

I request you guys to make a video on how these 3 cylinder turbo engine sounds inside cabin & how it feels after 40-50k kms (atleast with Hyundai Venue). I am already using a 3 cylinder engine car, nearly 1 lakh kms, i feel like cutting my ears when it crosses 80kmph on a smooth highway , soo annoying sound, one should shout loud to communicate inside the car after 80kmph.

Am I being too rigid when I say that I cant trust an automatic transmission. In a manual you are in full control of the shifts and revs and how the car behaves. And the automatic might have some inherent lag in it. Also more maintainence. No way I'm gonna trust an automatic on gradients and slope start/stop.

I have never driven an automatic but I am inclined to buy the new Creta IVT. Am I wrong to assume that a car with paddle shifters will have the best of the both worlds as well?
