out of every rendition, this is THE best band that I have ever heard to play this piece. So much perfection in their technique, great blend, very tasteful. Nobody has a more tasteful sounds than the Japanese (obviously not counting the ones who created the genre).
This is probably one of the best versions I've ever heard of this song. He has SUCH perfect tone/technique. My god, it's just mind blowing.

Now that is done with musicality and tone with some technique- It is refreshing to hear it as it is intended and not overwhelmed by gymnastics and super techical 'stuff' so prevalent today.

Smoother than the thorns in a babies arm. Too many cats have gotten away from this style of playing a saxophone. Playing the melody sweet and pure. Very good interpretation of one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

Mouthpiece choice changes things a lot too. There are jazz varieties of mouthpieces that are typically made of metal, and allow a lot percussive playing. With one of those and a decently stiff reed, you can project like a trumpet. Although, personal preference trumps all, so keep experimenting and you'll find a sound you like :)
this was an amazing --what a player this young man is WOWEE! THE BAND IS OK TOO!!!!!!!!!

I dunno if i like the sound of the horns, or it might just be the recording... On the other hand, the rhythm section sounds tight and the sax is simply heartmelting.

Jun Kondoh5+****"""" takes the Pulitzer Trophy for his improvisational dexterity and, of course, delivery of this ballad which I do hope to attempt using tenor saxophone as my vehicle of discourse. Among the great, MODERN interpretations are:😠 Alto saxophone: Grover Washington, Jr., Eric Marienthal :5* Darius Jones.:3.75* Soprano saxophone: Kenny Gorelick.4.5* Tenor Saxophone:😠 Stanley Turrentine,5* Ernie Watts,5* Rich Maraday5*

Is it me or does the beginning sound like "Someone To Watch Over Me"?
@wyndhleodumegwu2537 жыл бұрын
beboppinnow: It's neither you nor I. The two songs are melodically similar, especially at the beginning, so much so that on occasions I may intent to practice the one, in thought, but find myself actually playing the other - interchangeably. They are both beautiful and emotional; aren't they?😠
