About one quarter of South Koreans identify themselves as Buddhist, but in North Korea, which actively discourages religious practice, its popularity is less clear. VOA Correspondent Steve Herman has more from Hyangsan, North Korea.

Some communists believe in God actually. I find myself little bit of a SDP person and I believe in God. But usually extreme communists are atheist. But I dunno why. Is it because someone said once in Russia that "religion is drug for the nation"

North korean People should follow the Teachings of buddha including that Big baby (kim jon un) so that fellow koreans and dectator can atleast learn some life lessons and can be a Human from a devil again :)

Buddhism believes in Nirvana, in rebirth and afterlife in Pure Land or in hells, deva-lokas, or hungry ghost realms, etc. Buddhists believe Buddha state is above all 33-deva realm, also called - 33 God' realm - where Indra, Brahma, Varuņa and other Hindu "Gods" live.... actually Brahma came to learn from Buddha, and that's why Buddha didn't say he believes in (Hindu) Gods.... Buddha said - Buddha is "neither this neither that" (neti-neti)

@Harshdeep Singh It wasn't me who said Buddhism & Hinduism is the same; although - for me all religions are the same, a Path to Holy Life, a path to Holy World and a Paradise on Earth, consisting from only Perfect Saints; But problem is another - most Indians call themeselves Hinduists, but only a few practice religion regularly.... this is in all religions now.....

I'm from Finland and my teacher was extreme capitalist. He always said in school trips that look at this building. Soviets or reds destroyed it and then the "whites" or government people fixed it. It seems that the same thing is almost every day usage in North Korean school trips.. teachers are saying that some other country is just pure evil. Like u.s.a to North Korea and Russia to Finland. I think this is sick. You should not hate the future generations of your past enemy unless you are some kind of political advisor for generals in the self defence forces of any country in the world. Why innocent kids are told that the so called enemy is evil
