Great Big Story

Күн бұрын

Everlinda Salgado Herrera is proud to be from San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia, believed to be the first town in the Americas liberated from slavery. Legend has it that, after abolition, residents named a delicious, coconut-laden treat “alegría” to honor the sweet taste of freedom. It’s one of several sugary delights that Everlinda makes and sells, like her mother and grandmother before her.

I'm Colombian and if you haven't tried Colombian sweets and/or pastries what are you waiting for? Just go to the nearest Colombian bakery and get the first thing that catches your eye because everything is incredible.

We also have those here in the Philippines. They are called "Bocayo." Also, Palenque in Filipino means market, which was actually derived from náhuatl. ¡Saludos desde Filipinas, adelante mi hermanos!

Just something, in my language, filipino, palenque (palengke), means wet market/ farmer's market. And palenqueros mean market-goers, or anything at that line. Just a little somethin.
