Teenage girls are universally hated, lindsay ellis talked about this in one of her videos but essentially anything related to teenage girls (twilight, hannah montana, etc.) is constantly ridiculed. Everyone has an opinion, but no one scrutinizes the actions of young boys as much as girls. Like people make fun of that Jacob kid (the one who sang sweatshirt??) but they have a visceral hatred for girls like Danielle and Jojo.

gonna chime in with the fact that I grew up online, got exposed to adult things way too young, and was honestly afraid of getting really into things for years because I didn't want people to think I was "cringey". I got sucked into tumblr when I was like.. 12, and I regret it to this day. I WISH I had let myself be like Jojo and just not cared about what people had to say and been myself and been a kid. people need to let kids be kids for as long as possible. You have your whole life to be an adult, childhood is so limited and precious, it's not fair to these kids to try and take it away from them

I’m 17 and if you act anywhere close to how Jojo Siwa acts... there’s something genuinely wrong with you. You don’t have to have the brain and knowledge of a 25 year old but you do need to act your age. She doesn’t. I acted that way when I was 10, but at her age it’s just inappropriate and only acts that way to maintain her fame and image that she has created. You should be mature at your age, despite what you apparently think.

More people need to see this. I'm 15 and the amount of girls in my school that look 25 is crazy. It makes average or just not conventionally attractive girls feel left behind and pressured to cake on makeup or wear a push up bra. It really sucks to hear even my best friend (who is beautiful btw) say things like "if I don't get bigger boobs by the end of high school I'm getting a boob job." All because she has a small chest. If I had the choice to be friends with Jojo or Danielle, I'd 100% pick Jojo.

I can't relate to the "when I was 15 I was childish too" idea, because when I was 15 I was most definitely not childish and had already been through a lot of tough shit, but I'm all for someone holding onto their childhood as long as possible. I didn't get the opportunity. At 16 I was out of school, working 2 full time jobs and trying to help my parents pay their mortgage so they wouldn't loose their house. We mentally age differently. Some of us have to grow up faster than others. Some are lucky and get to stay a kid a little while longer.

Being a teenager is hard. I remember those days. The reality is most people in middle or high school are really insecure and a lot of them don't realize the weight of their words and how it effects other people. I think a lot of that bullying happens because kids just want to fit in and have a secure place and have a social standing so they give up their integrity just to feel accepted. Don't give up your integrity. You are allowed to like what you like and not be shamed for it. If you have confidence for liking what you like it can actually give bravery to those who are afraid to step out and admit they like it too....those people might even be the bullies who don't know they are bullying.

Mia Echlin jojo is probably normal off camera though. she wears bright clothing and is “childish” because that’s her image and it’s to attract the attention of children. i wouldn’t doubt that she’s normal off camera lol

this comment is dumb and. not about the point of the video at all but seeing you get excited about finding your old sonic was nice. I totally relate. I got into dw when I was probably 14-ish, and I'm only 17 now but that show feels really nostalgic. gives me the warm fuzzies, ya know?

I love this video so much. It's so pure. I'm 16 and a sophomore and it kind of was a slap of reality. At 14 I was worrying about if I had curves or not and I wish I appreciated childhood more (I'm still a kid, but I feel I'm too aware, ya dig?)

THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE IS DEFENDING JOJO she’s such a good role model for young girls and is glad she’s teaching kids to not grow up too fast. people always make fun of her for her being so over the top but that’s literally her whole brand???? and in collins she does with other youtubers that are more mature, she’s totally normal

oh my GOD. thank u for making this. i’m 15 and i’m expected to act like i’m 10 years older than i actually am. i’m expected to act like an adult and i’m A LITERAL CHILD. LIKE IM PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY A CHILD. i thought i was the only one that thought like this, so thank you for making this.

This is completely off topic but I just noticed in this video that your hair matches the cherry blossoms (?) on the wall behind you 🌸👌 I remember being 14/15 and feeling a lot of pressure from my peers and really from society in general to “grow up” and act older than I was, and it definitely hurt me during a time in which I was already struggling a lot with how I saw myself/who I wanted to be and how I wanted others to see me. Now that I see today’s 14/15 year-olds having to deal with similar things on the Internet, which as we all know can be extremely toxic for kids, as well as in peer groups, my heart just breaks for some of them. That’s why people like Jojo give me hope in a way, because they aren’t afraid to be themselves (in other words, to be children) despite all the hate. Anyhow if you’re still reading this thank you for coming to my rant I’m sorry it was so long here’s a cookie for your trouble 🍪

JoJo and Danielle are products of their environment. I really doubt Jojo would have turned out the same way if she grew up the same way as Danielle and vice versa. They are probably both acting like 15 year olds within their respective communities. Growing up in a poorer neighborhood around other troubled kids will have you "growing up" alot faster than growing up somewhere else. End of the day, I don't really think it's either of their responsibilities to be role models to anyone. Also, being 15 fucking suckssssss. You're still inbetween feeling like a child while becoming an adult. You start getting sexualized WAY more, especially from grown men. They're still children and still trying to grow into who they are and doing it all while in the public eye and trying to keep their personas intact to keep their income. I don't understand why so many grown adults have this weird fetish with tearing down teenage girls like they're still in highschool. It's so sad. These girls need to be protected :(

I'd like to point out that the "she dresses like a 15 year old" thing is maybe also cultural. Jojo Siwa comes from a dance background culturally. What is the current thing in dance culture? Bright colors and 80s throwback style. What about in hip-hop? Trap and cloud rap both have a mostly dark aesthetic. They're both acting like 15 year old representatives of their culture. Interestingly, comparing Hilary Duff and Hannah Montana to Siwa would also give them all pop backgrounds. The better comparison for Natalie would be something like Kris Kross who were 13 when Jump came out and that song had lyrics about making the listener's rump wiggle (no lie.) and jacking someone that tries to step up to Mac. I think they're both acting like 15 year olds, just from radically different sub-cultures. I can't believe I just tried to defend Natalie though.
