My name is Paulo Leite, and music is a fundamental part of my life.
No one seems to like jewel cases. Everybody seem to prefer digipacks. I love the jewel cases, and I think they are still the best way to keep your CD's. I will explain why.

In the last two years I’ve replaced all of my jewel cases for about 300 CDs. I bought extra jewel cases for future thrift shop finds and online purchases.

I also get them from libraries and eventually buy new ones. It's easy to get them.

Mi voto es para la Jewel Case. Los Digipack me gustan pero los tengo todos en fundas de celofán . Queda muy, muy bien, y así se protege el cartón pero es más engorroso a la hora de ponerlos. Ese disco de Johnny Smith es muy interesante.

Jewel cases in general are fine and when you replace them, like new again! But I do like it when the CD packaging is something a bit different. Like the original CD of Very by the Pet Shop Boys, which is completely orange and has raised bumps on the front surface. Unfortunately my copy has all it's teeth broken as well and a matching orange replacement tray is probably hard to find.

Totally agree. I bought the "Very/Relentless" when it came out in the early 90's. Do you have that one? The package was soft. The two discs were inside sleeves. Beautiful. I love the "Very" orange jewel case. The problem is that IF it breaks, you cannot replace it. I also love unique packaging... but you really have to take good care of them.

@@BestRecordShops I only own the single disc version, bought it second hand otherwise those teeth would be able to bite still! Never seen another inlay tray for sale that was the exact same shade of orange, though they do sell transparent orange ones. Bilingual has that frosted look, which is also quite interesting. XTC's Nonsuch has the namesake palace printed on the jewel case itself, which is pretty wild.

Digipacks should be forbidden. All my digipacks show wear and tear and they don't fit in my CD "furniture".

Yes, they are extremely fragile. I like the way they look... but it's a trade-off.

Absolutely agree! I will replace a digipack with a jewel cased version everytime. The CD's scourer when taking out of the digipack if it doesn't have a plastic cradle, and the digipack deteriorates with handling. Most reissues seem to be in digipacks and is offputting to purchase. I replace cd covers all the time and look new. My only issue is dust that at times I need to wash the CD with a mild soap and water, no solvents or cleaning products that may affect the CD.

@@H-mu4bo I think it's a case of money. A hard plastic case is more expensive than a piece of thin cardboard.

Fuckin’ hate digipaks!. And don’t get me started on those miserable cardboard yokes that are becoming popular now. They got it right first day with the jewel case.

I value the durability/simplicity/easiness to replace of the jewel case.

I hate digipacks. Looks cheap ( especially the "envelope" type ) and many times it's a too tight fit for the cd so either it gets small scratches or you'll rip up part the of paper/cardboard. Jewelcases are still my favorites, basically because they are easy to replace after an accident. Which I often do after buying used cd's or after they fall down or whatever.
