I have been in tech for over a decade as a software engineer. It can be very rewarding but you need to have passion for it. Its very challenging and competitive industry. Long hours, discipline and hard work. Best part is that you will never get bored and constantly learning new things. You can work for any company in the world remotely or move to there. There’s always jobs. You will get spammed daily by recruiters.

After matric I did aws got a job gained experience in it. I went on to do other cloud services like Azure,Oracle the field is big but some skills you have to learn is Python,Bash,Linux,Terraform and SQL then you can have a fruitful career

You empowering the youth this is amazing content. BEng Industrial & systems Engineering is a good way to go into most of these spaces. Or BSc informatics. If people are considering going the university route I am an industrial engineer by profession

Valuable comment. I'm aspiring to get into Industrial Engineering and I also wish to work in the Tech Industry. I have a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and I'm currently enrolled for ALX Software Engineering program whilst I'm awaiting response from WeThinkCode_ since I went for their coding bootcamp. I did research and discovered that I can get into Industrial Engineering through enrolling for a one-year Short Learning Programme (SLP) with UNISA and thereafter I can do my Advanced Diploma in Industrial Engineering. How possible is what I'm trying to do? I never heard of anyone going for this route. I appreciate any contribution to this regard 🙏🏽

Great video, earned yourself a subscriber. I graduated with a Diploma in IT Programming back in 2012 but never persued a career in IT. I went back to school and obtained a Diploma in Video Technology. I work for a big corporate now but still have regrets about not sticking with Programming. I'm finally making the decision to pivot, it's like I'm starting from scratch again...pray for me!

Oh you gonna have two in demand Skills on your CV !!! Love this for you! I truly believe video tech or editing is the most underrated skill in SA and its about to blow up even more but some people say it will soon be replaced by AI but nonetheless these are great choices and boy, why did you leave programming??? 😢

@@liferesetwithboni Thanks for the encouragement haha. Well, I'm from a small town in KZN, and after graduating I was unemployed for a year. My mistake was not moving to a bigger city, the only tech jobs in town were IT Networking/Support jobs. This was before the tech boom. Being from a very traditional & academic family, my folks were reluctant to me doing IT and so my father and I made a deal, if I didn't get employed straight after varsity then I'd go back to varsity to get a more common qualification (we agreed on Architecture)...I got accepted but the rebel in me had found out about Video Technology and I went for that. 7 years in it I find myself riddled with regret(mostly because of pay in Tech)

@martinngcobo3123 my brother just got started with IT Support in Richard's Bay. I tried to sway him to programming,tried for 4 months, and quit. he was learning the Java language, but I'm not sure if it was Java pr Javascript. Absolutely hated it, and now he is advancing himself with international certifications in that IT support space. My daughter is 14, I'm also trying to get her to coding, she hated robotics with passion but good with her Maths, gets her A s but I don't know, she is just connecting with robotics. But I will keep on exposing her, plus her school has a partnership with Microsoft, so when she is in grade 10, she will be exposed to after-school programs offered by Microsoft.

@@liferesetwithboni Sounds like it was Java, it's demoralizing when you just don't get the concepts, he got frustrated I suppose. Try to make it fun for your daughter, there are sites that teach code in a game-like way which is perfect for younger minds. My sister(15) had started her coding journey this year but has since given up, had hoped she would like it.

Hi Boni, South Africa is not the only one, Australia does have it and in the UK, qualifications are 4 years long - especially Comp. Sci and IT, three years theoretical course and 1 year internship which is the Honours year.

Thanks for the great video. I’ve been using chatgpt daily. It’s very helpful but requires you to know when it gives you the wrong answers and most of the time you need to be very specific on what you need. There’s this confusion that software engineers are coders only. We are problem solvers. Coding is one of tasks we do to help us solve a problem. So Learning code syntax is like memorising a dictionary. You only have words but you need to know how to put it all together to create something beautiful.

@@liferesetwithboni no, I did my ndip in IT software development at a university. I was using a student loan so continuing with my btech would’ve taken me much longer to repay the loan. The interest was very high. My high school didn’t have computers. university was the first time I could use a computer and code. So it’s never too late or too difficult to start.

I am a software developer trust me the problems we are given to solve need human intervention ai can only help you build but not come up with new things for example you can't ask ai can't come up with new solutions but yes you can use it to help you with building blocks
