I've only watched 3 minutes and nine seconds so far and I can tell that you have an excellent understanding of judo. I've barely done any myself but your meticulous and scientific way of explaining the technique helps drastically in improving my knowledge of judo. I hope you keep up the great work! and thanks for the fantastic video

I did judo for a few years when I was young, this was the way I was taught. I note a lot of books and tutorials teach a version without the initial right step. Instead there is just a breaking of their balance (or wait for them to move forward) followed by pivoting on the right foot and bringing the left foot around.

Thank you so much for the video! I came home from my judo practice and I did the foot work all wrong with this technique so I was so "dead" and angry on my self but this helped me a lot...I'm a begginer, that's why...Keep up the good work.

Firstly, I love your videos. As a beginning judoka, they've been giving me the drive to succeed and I've even thrown the 4th dan black belt in my class. However, and I'm sure you've heard this a lot, better audio would be excellent. I have a hearing impairment, so some of what you say is lost to me.

Because koga has a good ippon doesnt mean that everybody is gonna do it the same! everybody learns at their own pace! Everybody add their own tweek to throws!

he was probably being nice to let you be more confident my sensei did the same wen i was a beginner i was a white belt at the time and he would let me throw him and teach me good technique to boost my confidence,,a lot of the time beginners are too scared or reluctant to try techniques and are very stiffed armed they dont relax. However now im blue belt he doesnt let me throw him unless i actually threw him with pure skill he nw fights me hard and i feel like dying sometimes haha so hard!

Hello guys, I have a question about feet moves while performing seoi nage. When we do seio nage the right foot is kind of pivoting, which is not the case while doing harai goshi or tai otoshi. At harai goshi (tai otoshi) the left foot is coming towards the opponent, thus making our body turn. This is really confusing me. How do I know when to pivot and when to step towards. If you compare seio nage videos of Matt with his Harai gosi you will understand what I mean. And I tried to to do harai goshi (tai otoshi) with pivoting and it does not work. Can you help me please?

Koga used a kuzure, "Koga seoi nage, for a lot of that. It was powerful Judo, and he forced through resistance. While effective, I've always found it a bit strange. It isn't necessarily "in tune" with the concept of kuzushi and tsukuri as being most important, as opposed to strength.

It is the only right way to throw a standing seoi. The original textbook version isnt found in competition, because its biomechanically imperfect

Davi Stanesco ive literally been working on it for like 2 years and still suck at it. I think (hope) its a difficult throw, or i also suck. Lets train tai otoshi lolz.

LOL. I actually noticed my mistake. I was not getting low enough and pulling the gi with the wrong hand. But it's still difficult to apply this throw against heavier people. But i used it against a 130 kg guy but using a zenpon. I love Tai Otoshi, such a beautiful throw. I still a white belt so i'm looking forward for learning it. Cheers. :-)

+Davi Stanesco you can aply tai otoshi using the ippon seoi Nague grips. Its call fumikomi seoi Nague or seoi otoshi, there is some clips here on KZfaq.
