This was a really good review. I especially liked the comparison between the training readiness and recovery features across the other Garmin models and the competitors beginning around the 30 minute mark. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I’ve been searching for something that would be better than what Whoop or Apple seemed to offer and it looks like the FR 955 is finally it. Thank you!

@@fitgearhunter you begin ny saying how your review will be separate from those aimed at cyclists runners but I haven’t seen one with your content aimed at cyclists. Not DC Rainmaker or GP Lama or anyone else. As a cyclist who also lifts heavy stuff I have been searching for a tool to help me plan my lifts and my rides more intelligently. At first I thought it might be the 1040 bike computer but of course it wasn’t going to capture the full range of activity I undertake the way a wearable will. Do you know which other Garmins will get the Training Readiness update?

Awesome in-depth review on training readiness & other related measured parameters. I came from 945, am mainly road cycling, do light running & swimming as well. So am considering of new features on 955 with training readiness, stamina, HRV, etc. After watching your video, i decided to upgrade to 955. Mainly for training readiness & stamina function, which many other brands (as you review on Coros, Polar, Whoop don't have it, thanks for great review & comparison too) & older Garmin watches. Looking forward for more video content on training readiness, stamina in long term review, how good & accurate it would be. Lastly I think Garmin should give you big credit as you did great background work for them by comparing to other brands & recommended how to use running tracking & feature onto CrossFit instead. 💯 [p/s: I think you can turn off GPS when you use modified crossfit tracking, so can save battery life too] 😉

Xiaomi is not that good in terms of accuracy but TruSeen™ 5.0+ HR sensor by Huawei is way better than Garmin. But their software is buggy, insufficient and can not compete with Garmin. However, i think the real threat is Apple. Their hr sensor is the best in the world, also engineering and software. Whatever Apple does just works nearly with 100% accuracy. One day Apple will focus on sports features and that day will be the end for Garmin and others. We begin to see the signals of that with the watchOS 9.0 update. When they solve the battery problem, we will see contstantly (every second) measuring hr sensor and other health metrics soon by Apple. If you have an Apple watch 6 or 7, you don’t need to use an external hr belt beacuse it’s so fuckin accurate. I’ve been using Venu 2 plus since March 2022, i used to have Fenix 6x pro, Vivosmart 5, Vivoactive 4, Vivoactive 3, FR 245 in the past. Garmin still has problems with accuracy. HR sensor is just fine for rhr and steady state cardio type exercises. But it sucks when it comes to weight training. For instance, while carrying carboys in my both hands with demijohn pot holders (19x2 = 38 kg - 84 lbs) from my car to my floor, my hr increases to may be 140’s but Garmin shows 90. However, my other previous watch Huawei watch gt 3 used to catch this hr increase immediately.

@@_samurai_744 probably you are right I really don’t know nothing except Garmin and few years with Fitbit before Garmin. But from opinion like yours I can see that other brands don’t sleep. Sooner or later they will catch up in terms of precision and ecosystems and together with better price-performance they will overcome big names. It’s like in automotive businesses 50 years ago American automobile manufacturers laughing at Japanese and Korean brands but look what happened I think that the same destiny will have all companies like Garmin and Apple. They don’t know when to stop and they don’t realize when is the point when enough is enough. Technology is getting cheaper not more expensive tough time but for them obviously is other way around.

@@_samurai_744 Awesome, awesome summary. Yes I don’t think Xiaomi and HUAWEI are ever going to really be competitive because of their limitations, inability to connect to external sensors, and bugginess in general, and I agree that the new HUAWEI sensor is on point for sure. And I totally agree about the Apple Watch. I don’t think it’s ever going to wipe away Garmin, for sure. I don’t think I’ll ever drive out the market, but I do think it will pull in new purchasers if they get their shit together and do a real sports watch. There’s hints of it but even with what I have read about the updates coming they are still far from competitive from what Garmin offers, and even from the simplicity of what polar offers. So I’m not very hopeful, or very afraid, that they are going to break into the market much in the near term, like next five years even. I think simple things, like their sleep analysis, is still so useless that you have to use a third-party app to get value out of it, seems mind-boggling boggling to me and a sign that they are off the mark in serving the sports training community. Simply, if they copied or built versions of all these third-party app analytics into their base software, and added to it a rugged exterior solution and three day minimum battery life they would be competitive. But thinking about it all out loud I have zero expectations that they will do so! Again, awesome thoughts all around.
