Featuring 88 fully-weighted keys that give you the natural feel and response on an acoustic piano, the slim-line piano delivers all the features of a standard digital piano in a slim, stylish, and smart form. Dynamic and expressive sound
To ensure that you have the best possible experience, the Casio CDP S100 comes with ten high-quality AHL ii tones. Also featured are a variety of digital effects which give you added versatility over your instrument. These digital effects range from reverb, chorus effects, and more, letting you directly personalise your sound and tweak the effects and tone to your liking.
Once combined with the new Dynamic Stereo Sound Engine, these tones will be in enhanced stereo with an expanded dynamic range. Now you can play quieter pianissimos and louder fortissimos. With the dual 8W speaker system this is a powerful piano for the size!

The digital piano is made with simulated Ebony and Ivory textured keys, replicating the touch and playability of an acoustic grand piano. And thanks to the all-new tri-sensor system, you can accurately capture the tonal character of your performance with the CDP S100. Casio's CDP S100 allows you to perform with total depth, character, and strength.

i'm quite old but an aspiring pianist who loves listening to piano music all day watches piano tutorials. Versus Roland FP-10, I think CDP-S100 has won my heart to be my very first piano and I hope I would able to get such a beautiful sounding keyboard and learn to play music by heart while we're in this crisis. I'm away from my family caused by this pandemic and how I wish when everything turns back to normal I can be with my family and play them some music I love with this. Such a great review and I must say this had made my decision, thank you.

Angelo, Thank you for your reasonable voice! You helped me to pick the right instrument for me after a lot of confusion. I used to play a keyboard for a year in the past and after years I want to give it a try again. I am buying an entry-level electronic piano and was thinking between CDP-S100/110/160, Roland FP-10, and Yamaha P-45. I watched and read a lot of reviews and was even more confused. I went to music shops and checked different models. FP-10 is recommended by most KZfaqrs and pianists because of the sounds and very realistic keyboard action. For me and for some people on the internet the action on Roland is just too heavy. Not so nice to play on. Yamaha P-45 has cheap keys and it is a bit outdated although it is a classic and the sound is great. Then I tried CDP-S110 and fell in love with it. Brilliant action - a bit less heavy than Roland, the wonderful surface of keys and I liked the sound too. Most people say - go and try it. The feel is the most important. So I decided to buy it. But then I read many negative comments about the sound quality of Casio, that it sounds more like cheaper keyboards/toys. Then I came here and saw your great enthusiasm as a professional player regarding the S100. And if you play so much and enjoy it then I was ok to go with it. On the internet you always have a lot of hype - you need to have this more expensive one, don't make the mistake to buy X. But at the end of the day, it is all about me practicing daily and not overspending in the first place. If I play regularly for a year or two I can always buy something more expensive. If I may suggest, it would be great if you tried a simple "pocket" microphone. It would reduce the echo :) Thanks a lot again.

This is a useful demo. The comparison that starts at 8:13 makes plain, to me at least, that the CDP is not in tune. The PX is perfectly in tune. I hear an unpleasant vibration with the CDP on the second note of the melody. C#. The same note on the PX does not vibrate. I was going to buy the CDP for a young learner but I can't live with that issue. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the informative review! Definitely the best one on youtube for this piano. Testing with no sound was great, wish more reviewers would do this. Still trying to decide between this and the FP-10 (Yamaha P45 seems a bit too outdated now). Curious if anyone has compared the CDP-S100 and FP-10 two irl and can give a recommendation. Was originally sold on the FP-10, but it's out of stock everywhere and the Casio is still available in my region. Plus it's about $70 US cheaper. Only comparison I can find is the blind test, but I don't really trust that video given the CDP-S100 wasn't being used with a sustain pedal.

I really like what I see with this piano, but I have many articles that say that the 128 polyphony is a lot better and some say 64 is enough. I don't plan on use the layered much or doing duet stuff, at most it'll just be holding the sustain pedal when needed. I wouldn't say I'm a beginner but I also wouldn't say I'm an expert. Would songs such as Fur Elise or other more intermediate classical pieces be enough to use this CASIO CDP-S100 without having polyphony issues?

Rovi Amora I do. It depends a lot on the local price you got and what your expectations are; it surpassed all of my expectations by a lot for its price, and it packs a very solid build and decent sound, albeit not too loud (for a performance of even the smallest size, you’ll need an amp). The MIDI interface is great and has an almost instant response, the keys stack their sounds seemingly endlessly (had an old keyboard once that only registered up to six keys at a time which was really shitty), and it came with a damper pedal. Great stuff.

Hi Angelo! Thanks for the review! I am thinking about getting a digital piano and my budget is pretty tight at the moment. I was considering getting something like the S100 (150) or Roland FP10 (as a midi controller mostly), but because of the coronavirus I can't get my hands on them. In Russia Fp10 costs 100-150 pounds more. I like the slim design of the Casio, but I was afraid that the shorter pivot length migth be a problem for a man with relatively long fingers. Would you say in terms of playability Roland fp10 is worth the price difference? Thanks!

I just discovered your demo; I think it's one of the best I've seen on this model from Casio. It is a very good idea to have keyboard noise heard when the sound is off because it is an important criterion for me who plays at home ; perhaps it would have been interesting to also hear the sound recorded directly from the output in order to give an idea of what can be obtained by connecting it to a very good amplification. Bravo again for the job and your piano skills . By the way do you know the difference between the CDP-S100 and the CDP-S150? I can't find it on the web. Michel

We use the CDP 100 (old version) for our mainstage controller with a korg nano control. My main concern for a controller is the keybed and feel of play. I'm curious if the new keybed and textured keys would be worth upgrading from our old version.

Hi Angelo. Best wishes for a great (and better for all) new year. Really excellent music and reviewer skills. One of the most honest and down to earth gear video review I've ever came across. You also reminded me of my years around the west end theatre circuit (as a bartender) - great vibes. Just a question. Hypothetically speaking, if today you were coming across: the CDP-S 100, the PX 150, the Roland FP 10, the Korg D1 and the Yamaha P45, all priced the same, all in mint condition, which one would you prefer mainly as a studio piano midi controller (and the occasional role as a practice piano on its own)? Any other suggestions for this purpose on the same price range (used or new)? Portability and size don't matter in this scenario. Cheers and keep up the great work.

In many places people say the sustain effect is very short on the ps100 and after playing it once in a shop I have to agree its way shorter than every oder piano. But I would love to know if you could test it connected to a DAW via MIDI to see if that problem persists. Cause it shouldnt, right?

I'd had my heart set on the Roland FP10, but everywhere is out of stock in Australia, and I'm not sure how long the delay will be. I have found the CDP-S100 and CDP-S150 in stock. The latter is $100AUD more expensive, and I'm wondering if the sound is sufficiently superior to justify the added cost or is that added cost simply related to other features (which, as a beginner, I'm unlikely to be interested in). Any ideas?

@@AngeloTsocosMusic I ended up going with the Kawai ES110, but thanks all the same. A minor KZfaq curiosity I just learned now (and which you too may not have known) is that when you edit a message, the original shows up in the notifications - or at least in this case it did. [Lest anyone get the wrong idea, Angelo didn't say anything embarrassing, just tidied up the original for clarity and brevity. I just thought the effect was interesting enough to note.]
