But being able to work where you want is always better than a commute in bad traffic to the office to be around people you don't care about, have meetings that could've been emails and catch something from a sick coworker that chose not to stay home.

OK, but he was a real one. This is longwinded, so take it for what you will, but the entire point of the movie was to show how sick society had become. Corporations were almost out of the picture, and people were left to their own devices. They all refused to touch grass. Everyone was chasing a high. They were literally trying to kill each other to replace each other with clones; proving love was dead, especially for their own children and even for their self. They would offer no resistance to becoming programs, facsimiles of themselves, even though the master program or whoever was in charge would likely just replace or delete them on a whim one day. They were all destined to become destructively defragged / optimized in the worst possible way. The irony is that Adam was inside that chip, so he became the first virtual human. I imagine that if he transfers himself off the chip, he will always have a head start over even the guy that invented the tech. The inventor was probably disgusted with himself so he would do absolutely wild things like test drive an AI human that meant nothing to him besides maybe being like his own child, even though he knew it meant a lot to Adam. He would put an AI inside a human body even though that's literally a downgrade when the physical aspect of society is about to become obsolete. I guess that AI was given the chip to have the chance to realize that the real world sucked and she needs to go back to being a program, but she wasn't careful with it. Anyways, it's the idea of the singularity like in the animated series Pantheon or the light novel called Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect. If Adam is about to become a demi-god, the rest of humanity is done for because he probably feels like they betrayed him at every turn. Or, he is an inferior copy and may be worse than the average AI despite how special humans think they are and how unpredictable he is as a dissident.

I always felt that I would be that one human that was like Will Smith in the movie iRobot. I'll be the only person left who still has a personal home library of paperback books, listening to music through headphones that still have a cord attached, and super suspicious of robots, AI, and all things considered to be "breakthroughs" in technology.
