Quick tip for analyzing on Denon Prime 4. Most of us only use decks 1 and 2 for mixing, leaving decks 3 and 4 for other purposes and housekeeping (Analyzing) Use decks 3 and 4 to pre-load songs that haven't been analyzed. It seems because of the powerful CPU in the Prime 4, it can analyze songs simultaneously. This lets you analyze a crate full of songs by pre-loading them while your main songs are playing, edit beat grids, and other chores. Now they just need a BPM tap to correct songs that have been analyzed by Denon Engine prime incorrectly.

Glad Denon have released this controller. I have pre-ordered one for my bar and one for home. Really annoying thing is most DJs put Pioneers on their rider. It would be good if Denon linked up with a DJ agency to encourage more DJs to use Denon gear. This would help bars and clubs book Denon DJs.

I decided to pull the trigger on a Denon DJ Prime 4 based on watching your review Luke and how smooth you were mixing. I am not a producer/artist but a true open format DJ who does nightclubs/weddings and corporate events and found this to be the best controller I have played, mixed and utilized and I have tried many. I did add a 1TB SSD Hard Drive and it holds my library and although it does standalone I am still using Serato DJ Pro because I am able to layer multi-effects I.E. flanger with echo out etc. I did like playing in standalone mode it was just as intuitive as well. When you add the Odyssey Case for it it is a solid, heavy deck but the trade off is a controller/decks that fully allow creativity and mixing! Great Job and thank you for promoting all DJ's Luke!

Hey Luke, My name is Sebastian, I've been a DJ for 10 years, going on 11. However, I have only ever done live mixing in a few small clubs. I have a few questions for you, I would really appreciate if you could address them to help me out! If you Cannot answer them all, The main one I would love to hear a response to is the Creation behind Sets. I've already used your Hotcue method, Tweaked it to my liking, and it's made everything much cleaner. 1. When you go on stage, regardless of how big or small. Even if it's just a party, first off. What goes through your head? Are you nervous or does that ware off after a while? 2. When going on stage, yet again regardless of size. What do you do to prepare, Such as Setlists? How do you know what to mix, and when? Do you write down really good mixes or just remember them? 3. You and Tim Bergling were the main 2 to inspire me to start up Dj'ing and pursue a Career in the art. How difficult was it to start up for you, and actually get more gigs? 4. How do you organize your music? I've Organized mine by Genre, but It kills me because House has SO many sub-genres, and many tracks have multiple Sub-Genres! Would LOVE to hear about these in a Video explaining your process of building a setlist or even an "In My Mind" Episode! Keep up the incredible work Luke. The Vlogs, music and everything you are doing is making Dj'ing so much better for myself.

Hey there! Thought I would share my two cents: 1. When you go on stage, regardless of how big or small. Even if it's just a party, first off. What goes through your head? Are you nervous or does that ware off after a while? -Im not nervous, maybe a little my first time. Dont sike yourself out! Have fun. People want to dance and have fun. Talk to people and interact with them. Be in the moment and have fun! 2. When going on stage, yet again regardless of size. What do you do to prepare, Such as Setlists? How do you know what to mix, and when? Do you write down really good mixes or just remember them? -I have a routine. I listen to music to amp me up. I eat a healthy meal before a show. I work on new songs and cues for the show and plan my sets out! I do not pre record but I like knowing what songs i can blend perfect. 3. How difficult was it to start up for you, and actually get more gigs? -Dont worry about the attention. I have been Djing and producing for less than 2 years. The more i focused on the fame, the less it happened for me. The more i focused on my production and quality, the better I got. In due time... 4. How do you organize your music? I've Organized mine by Genre, but It kills me because House has SO many sub-genres, and many tracks have multiple Sub-Genres! -I organize my sets by what songs blend very well with each other. I could have a top 40 song mix well with a dubstep track and so on. Just depends. I organize my tracks based off of sets, never genre's or libraries. Shoot me a message on instagram at skeddy_official and ill send you a set and some original tracks of mine! -SKEDDY

Hey Luke, what is your opinion on what DENON is doing and how it's going to impact the market for DJ equipment? This unit comes at a price lower than that of a new CDJ-2000 from Pioneer, an entire functioning 4 deck unit for a price lower than that of one media player. Currently, Pioneer still has the big name to make sure people buy their stuff, but I don't see it happening in the future that people spend 10.000 dollars on a pioneer set when they can get this for under 2.000 dollars UNLESS Pioneer drastically lowers their price or comes with something groundbreaking.

This seems like an amazing price of kit. Especially for $1600. It’s also going to be available for Serato. If they also offer the job wheels motorized M. This will hands down be the best controller.
@annamcclaccen1860
@annamcclaccen1860 5 жыл бұрын
I never saw the Appeal of motorized job wheels. It always felt unneeded and artificial having been on techs well over a decade. Even when we all moved to cdjs it's not like they were motorized. Motorized platters spell two words for me, unneeded and expensive. I certainly respect your opinion and preference to have a pair so I hope they come out with a model like that for you one day but as an introductory offer, I'm so glad they didn't because it will be Waymore people on them and if they included those cheesy motors and be well over two grand.
@churchillcoins8519
@churchillcoins8519 5 жыл бұрын
Jim Mcclaccen Motorized platters give the sensation of turntables when scratching. To many people who started with CDJ’s, controllers or don’t scratch are indifferent to the motorized portion. However, for many of us who started with turntables, it feels more accurate. Dennon had motorized platters in the early 2000’s that felt very artificial. Numark with the NS7 2 and 3 had motorized platters that felt fantastic (like scratching on 45’s). The Dennon SC5000M is only $500 more I would pay that gladly for the upgrade.

Happy New Year, Luke! Just wanted to tell you that I LOVE your style, brother! I'm an old school DJ from back in the day (80s, 90s, and 00s) who hung up his headphones about 15 years ago. I played most of the marquis clubs in the Buffalo / Niagara Falls NY area, and covered pretty much every format imaginable, from 80s pop and dance (Prince, Rick James, Debbie deb, Trinere, Afrikka Bambaataa, etc.), 80s and 90s new wave and alternative stuff, party music, and early house and techno (which owns a special place in my musical heart, and I think you're one of the best in the modern EDM format). My favorite club gig ever was my residency at a huge mega club in Niagara Falls called Pleasuredome, which catered to the cool club clientele from Buffalo and Toronto, and we pioneered the house and techno sound in the region (James Brown was dead after all), and I STILL love EDM to this day (and again, your musical taste is right up my alley). Long story short, I had a Michael Corleone moment in September (Every time I think I'm out, they pull me back in!) when I was asked to DJ at a huge charity music festival called Music is Art (or MiA, thrown by the guys from the Goo Goo Dolls) and I caught the bug again. I just purchased a Prime 4 and am currently busy converting my music library in Engine Prime. I DEFINITELY hope to catch your act some time in the new year, brother!!! ...and I'll keep you posted on my progress with the Prime 4. Cheers!!! ヅ

Great to see you mixing with that beast. Absolutelly the best standalone dj workstation in the world! Handling that layering is pretty hard, but maybe Denon could show those active layers on the screen some better way? E.g. put "grey" overlay to non-active layers or make glowing borders around of active layers. Most of time you are watching that screen.. not that platter color or layer buttons.

Jim Mcclaccen The big jogs on the ddj1000 are awesome. I think it’s 8” jogs on the ddj1000 and 6” on the Prime4. You are right, the one gripe is the jogs. The Prime4 is so much more versatile, though. The standalone 4 channel with usb and a hard drive inputs is why I’ll grab one. I’ll keep the ddj1000 for a backup and also let my son learn on it.

I’ve also been struggling with an earlier denon controller switching between channels 1-3 2-4 it’s not very intuitive and can easily lead to getting confused to which deck you are working, that said I still use it and they are good controllers. Really good to see your workflow and the nuts and bolts of how you mix, it really helps. Interesting your comment at the end about how many times it took to have a mix you thought was worth saving minus errors, this is how I mix and save and did wonder who else does it this way I believe this is one way to improve you live dj’ing. Luke, I'm really torn about leaving my MC7000 and Serato.... looking extensively into the Prime 4 and also the Prime mixer and deck separates... Any chance you can ask Denon to implement a Sampler player into the next gen of Prime gear? Would also love SC ayer sized Jogs and a stop/brake time knob(I think they added this on the Prime 2)... on the Prime 4, effects usable on external sources would he a plus, so you can echo out of a XD or Vinyl source as well as the internal decks.... not a deal breaker like the sampler function, but still a great one to implement if possible. Lastly, if they could fifure put a way to not still need a laptop for running Soundswitch, that would be the total package....otherwise a laptop is still needed for that ... Thanks foe all your videos... I know Denon is working to make the best hear possible, and impliment what DJs ask for...please pass it along to them...especially the sampler function, I have seem that talked about in a lot of comments on Denon Prime videos...

This weekend I had the chance to test the prime 4 and other gear of Denondj at a trade fair. In my mind the gear of Denondj is next level. There was a lot of other gear at the trade fair too, but in my opinion, the Denondj gear was the best.

Mr. LL 1st great mix 👍🏼 I Share a similar thought, as using the USBs only is a great option. I feel that setup is a bit overwhelming for my taste tho. I would really like to be part of the design team for DENON The big visual weakness is the jog wheels, they should be more Adult size. (Maybe call them “the Perfect 10”) just my opinion, 😃👍🏼 SHOUT OUT TO ALL! -Mike Beats

@JollyOfficial
@JollyOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
@@martindjmartin4909 Well, the thing is that you can still use DDJ1000s mixer as standalone mixer with eq functions and that's a big plus. Whereas I don't know if Prime 4 is able of that.

Hey Luke! Just a quick question from a rookie here, when selecting your next track, do you always know the exact one you want to play and then look it up directly? Or do you know roughly what kind of song you want to play and go looking for a song in a certain playlist?

I'd say Prime 4 is more like TWO SC5000 + a X1800 as the SC5000 have the dual layer and you can do 4 channel with 2 players... And you have a button to go from one channel to the other, just like on the Prime 4.

I love this... such an honest way to test out a product... i really like that you appear to do it in one take and leave in your mistakes and share some secrets. I’m going to have to upgrade my CDJ 800’s and xone 32 sooner than later... but I recently had a little boy so pioneer nxs just seem like an irresponsible purchase. If this thing is all it’s cracked up to be it very well might be in the cards, even though my last experience with Denon resulted in a boots in the dryer mix (sc3500 with a sketchy pitch fader) I think enough time has passed to give them another chance. I love that the volume fades line up with the wavs on the screen. So badass! Respect Luke!

I cant wait to get a Prime 4. I love how Denon made the Left and Right sides like 2 CDJs and not just mirror the buttons like the Numark NS7III. I noticed you sill use 1 Deck on left and 2 on the Right, Is there a reason for that, or just personal preference?
