I keep hearing rumors of a "6 Billion Dollar Man" movie and I am intrigued by how they might do callbacks to the original. Surely they won't lean into slow motion, but they gotta do something as a shoutout to the fans.

With any luck they'll learn their lesson from the game designers for the star wars franchise. First Jedi speed we encounter is literal ffwd which was impossible to follow. The next game in line allowed everyone else down. Marvel and DC do that now. So maybe we'll get the slow environment normal Steve.

I think the slo-mo was used to lessen the impact of the violence for a family audience. I saw an interview with David Carradine about the Kung Fu series where he said they used the same device for that reason. Or maybe it was just to pad out the running time.

The intro got me pumped as a kid! It was 90 seconds long, which seems a good deal of time to give to an intro. But it worked, and I bet it's seared into the memory of a generation.

i havent watched the show in 50 years, but a couple of scenes stand out. one time they had steve locked in a tool shed (i think he was posing as a LUMBERJACK for some reason) and there was a guy with a rifle guarding the shed, like 200 yards away. so steve found some bailing wire and using his bionic arm, he wound it into a ball, then using his eye, he zeroed in on the guy and whipped the wire ball at him and it made a whistling sound until it hit him then it mand that "thump-thump-thump" sound. another one was when a rich criminal hired 6 karate guys (all from different styles) to attack steve and he filmed it so as to prove steve was bionic so he could blackmail him. also, the japanese soldier who thought ww2 was still going on and the wolf boy.

you didn't finish the Venis probe story. steve made a hook and screwed it into the hole on top, then a helicopter with a cable came and hooked it and flew it up in the sky and the atmospheric pressure made it explode because it was pressurized for venis's atmosphere
@capacola262743
@capacola262743 5 ай бұрын
i just remembered something else...as the chopper was lifting it, the probe whipped out a mini circular saw and it was trying to free itself by cutting through the cable and the suspense was "will it get to the correct altitude before it cuts through the cable?"
@damperthree
@damperthree 5 ай бұрын
YES! All that was so intense! Add all that to Steven's bionic arm failing and having to put on his parachute to bail out before everything exploded, and you have one of the best scenes in scifi TV history!

the way i remember the jamie sommers story line is she's steve's girlfriend, and they go skydiving and her chute doesn't open and she's ALMOST killed, and steve goes begging to oscar goldman to save her by making her bionic too. then she got her own show right after that.
@damperthree
@damperthree 5 ай бұрын
You're remembering correctly, that's how she got her bionics. Then that at the end of those two episodes where she's introduced, she "dies" because her body rejected the bionics. But then we find out later they solved the problem when they brought her back in season 3. That's when they kicked off her show.

I thought "Population Zero," I believe it was the second episode(?), was really cool. The bad guy tries to freeze Austin in a warehouse and Steve breaks out, hardly able to move until he warms up, running to stop the bad guy. He eventually picks up a chain-link fence post and throws it into the bad guy's van, and it explodes spectacularly.

I liked the British show "The Champions" better. It came on a few years before the 6 Million Dollar Man. It's was about three undercover agents who's jet crashes in the Himalayan mountains. They're found by a hidden advanced civilization, their bodies are rebuilt to be strong, faster, and more agile. All their senses were also enhanced and they were endowed with some psychic powers.

As a teenager, back in the early eighties, I went on the tour at Universal which included the revolving tunnel back then. The tunnel really was disorienting, although it didn’t seem as much on the show. Last time I took the tour the venue was changed to the King Kong 3D experience. In theory, you could still add the revolving tunnel using the 3D setup.

True, not 50 years of content, but 50 years of relevancy. The show made its mark when it debuted (before, really), and not only do folks still admire it to this day (Lee Majors is still a big draw at conventions), but it spun off a couple of additional movies and MAY still get a reboot. That part of the video's narrative didn't come out at all, and so you make a good point. I really do appreciate that kind of pointed feedback, so thank you!

Although the Six Million Dollar Man ,was a very good sci fi show ,I think that the Outer Limits was better, because instead of one type of future science ,like cybernetic body parts ,The Outer Limits covered all types of scientific phenomenon, good and bad ,it reached farther into the scientific imagination, to show what did, could and would happen in the scientific world. Just my opinion, I'm not criticizing your choice.
