In Search of Valhalla: Hidden Sequoia Waterfall Hike

Southern California is in the middle of a massive heat wave, and you know what that means: WATERFALL HIKE! Waterfall season is still popping off and this week we're taking you to a hidden / off trail waterfall hike near Sequoia National Park. There is no GPS file for this hike and you won't find it on All Trails, which meant that we had no idea what we were getting into. But, with a little bit of scrambling we made our way to Valhalla Falls, one of the most glorious southern California waterfalls we have ever encountered!
We do try to be respectful and not blow up beautiful places like this (especially ones like this that haven't been ruined with graffiti yet!) but if you are interested in doing this hike just send us an email and we'll point you in the right direction!

For a less than 9 minute vlog who needs more waterfall adventure than this guys! Have I ever said you guys are simply AMAZING. I surely have! Just remember you don’t have to go far to entertain us you know. Just look what you’ve done here lately. Fantastic! I especially appreciate the kid screams, the fact that Jellybean is always the first in and Adam wearing his gaudy shorts for these waterfall hikes. Thank you both for another amazing video - this hike was beautiful! I love how you always experience the waterfalls to the fullest, no matter how cold. Also, Elise, when Adam said he loves the ugly things in life, before you said anything I immediately thought ... well, except for Elise (obviously!!) An ongoing heel/achilles injury flared up after my Monday run, but it's gotten so much better now since I've been doing nothing but rest. It should be ready at least for hiking. Fingers crossed.

Back from my mountain trip just the other day, legs feeling it! was an incredible weekend and the climb was intense at times (at least for me) but of Course worth it. Started in t shirt and shorts, swiftly adding many layers on the summit, definitely recommend the Scottish highlands! Lovely adventure you guys had here! woo!

Well done, Carl! Very glad it went well, and we will soon be following your lead with bringing multiple layers. We're in the Sierra right now where it's about 90F at 4000 feet, but at 14,000 it is nearly freezing. If all goes well, we'll be going up above 14,000 in less than a week!

Totally agree, David. The California waterfalls are just amazing! The water here was not as cold as in the high Sierra, but honestly it was still pretty darn cold! But it made both of us feel great for the whole rest of the day. ❤️

Oh man Rick, I feel you on the severe poison oak allergy. I think my tights must be on the thicker side, because I never get poison oak when I wear them but I always seem to when I don't. Also, I think going into the waterfalls is helpful in washing off any oil that might have made it onto me somewhere! --A

Thanks Caroline -- so glad the sun-dappled light came out on camera. It was exquisitely beautiful in person. Yes there was poison oak, and one big bush of it right near the falls almost got us when we didn't have our tights on! Fortunately Adam saw it just in time and pointed it out, so we were able to skirt around it! ❤️

ELISE you make fun of ADAM's outfit which is very colorful, but I think it's her favorite shorts. On the other hand, ADAM, for the first dive you send ELISE as a scout, poor thing. Haha you're not wrong, Jeff! I think it might be a height discrimination issue -- Adam's six foot six-ness is already pretty loud, so too many crazy colors on him seem kind of wacky. Whereas on me the socks just bring the decibel level up to match the level he's already on! ❤️

It actually wasn't too bad driving in, Ellen! There's a network of dirt roads off of 99 that are in pretty good shape. Of course we did take a wrong turn before getting it right, but the GPS ultimately took us to nice a little turnaround parking area with the trailhead just off to the right. It's a pretty short hike and scramble from there, but totally worth it for the beauty of the falls. ❤️
