"The band was made up of Toronto session musicians

I was fortunate to be the recording engineer on the In Session series for both seasons (that's me in the control room in the grey shirt) It was an unforgettable experience. I have several photos I took backstage during breaks. Glen and Leon were a pleasure to work with. Glen had no star attitude whatsoever. Hung out with the crew at lunch. Leon was a bit more withdrawn, but a real southern gentleman. Glen also did an episode in Season 2 in 1988, with Jimmy Webb.

Great to hear from you. The late Ian Anderson told me when they would be arriving, and where I could show up to greet them. I wonder why this never made it to DVD for sale to the public, and I wonder what never made it to air (what was left on the cutting room floor). Would you mind sharing your photos with me (sliddycoat@gmail.com)? I would love to see them.

I was in Leon's band in 1981. He was a private person, not prone to extroversion, in other words. Leon was a good-hearted man, however. And I never heard him speak negatively of anyone.

Glen Campbell was the soundtrack of our summer travels. Leon Russell, I grew up in the Pearl District of Tulsa, Ok, during the 70s, about a mile from Leon's Church Studios. During the 70s Eric Clapton and George Harrison were in love with the Tulsa Sound being made with Leon and J.J. Cale, because of this they were frequently in town. Ran into Le4on, George and Eric in the health food store, they came in for some fresh yogurt, my buddy grabbed my wrist and said, "Be cool, they come in all the time, don't want to run them off", I did stare a lot thought. After graduation my buddy stopped by the Church Studio and asked Leon for a job. A week later I was at the OKC Airport, when suddenly Leon and his entourage hurried by, late for a flight. My buddy, loaded down with 5 carryon bags was hurrying to keep up, I asked Tony, "Where ya headed, he said, Europe, I got the job, I'm a roadie."

It's amazing how many hit records Leon played on in the 60s. I heard a story from a biography of Leon that some of that work he was inundated with he hated doing, like playing for Gary Lewis and the Playboys. None of them played an instrument or could read music and it drove Leon nuts. Gary's Dad Jerry had to use all his star power to get Ed Sullivan to allow his son's band to appear on his TV show. Ed didn't want them on because nobody played an instrument and he'd have to cover for him or let them lip-synch, something nobody did on Ed's show. In the end Jerry won out and Ed let them on.

This was so darn great. Two talented musicians reminiscing about songs & times that touched their hearts, while leaving a trail of their own musical magic dust on so many hits which at the time we were hardly aware of. Through so many genre too. Some wizards should never grow old, let alone be allowed to 'Fly Away', leaving us here to shed silent tears of losses & joy. And Oh, what talent & tunes of our own life's panoramas, still echo down the line, even Gentle on our Minds. This just reminded me of how we were blessed for choice. ❤😊🎉

Wonderful performance by all. I used to do a morning talk show in Cleveland, and Glen stopped by to promote his upcoming appearance. I got to play Gentle On My Mind with him. What a thrill for me since I’d done that song for years when I played in bars around Detroit. In my later years, I produced TV documentaries, including one on Alzheimer’s Disease. Glen was still touring, and he and his wife, Kim, sat down for an interview before his concert that night. He was still performing pretty well, but it was hard to see that incredible talent fading away.

Man, if Glen Campbell were just a talented guitar player, capable of rising to the challenge of just about any situation (rehearsed or off-the-cuff), that would be one thing, but the man was also such a gifted vocalist that, at times it just doesn't seem fair to the rest of us that one person could be that good and, worse yet (ha!) make it look so effortless. What a gift to human ears he was!

Wow. Incredible session, such chemistry from all those yrs together in the Wrecking Crew. And was Glenn Campbell uber talented? I have never seen another singer/guitarist with such a range of skills, vocally and instrumentally. Awesome.

I remember that hokey show Hee Haw in the late 60s early 70s I guess it would have been. There was one show where they had Glen Campbell and Roy Clark get into a cutting contest and I'll tell you what man, this rock and roller was absolutely blown to the moon🌙 and back! I always loved the facial expressions that Roy Clark would get into! He looks like he was just a very very happy man! And why wouldn't he be?! 💖🙏😊🎸🔊🎶👍💯

I was fortunate enough to see Glen Campbell live late in his career. Regret not seeing Leon Russell. For Glen Campbell fans, the GC museum in Nashville is a must-see. Went a couple of years ago and we were the only ones there (sadly), but got to see a lifetime of his musical genius.

I was playing in Nashville near the waterfront in the world’s biggest jam session. I had to go to the restroom. There were some porta-potty’s on the hill…Since I had to not stop playing, I asked a nearby grey haired lady to open and close the door while I did my business. After I was finished, I thanked her, and asked her name? She said “Felice Bryant.” I knew I had heard that name before. I went and looked it up, Felice &Beudelo Bryant were songwriters, one of their hits? “Heartbreak Hotel.” Truth.

And don't forget to look up at how many hit songs these two maestros added their magic to. Leon was part of the Wrecking Crew as well & accompanied musicians from the Beach Boys to JJ Cale & countless in-between. Not to mention the voice of Glen which added magic to so many Jimmy Webb classics & more.

As a child of the 60's&70's, I grew up with these two. The thing I really dislike about today's music is there's no more pickers like Glen, Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, etc. There's no Leon Russell, Dr. John, Billy Preston, etc. If these guys came through today, the "music makers" would pat them on the head, smile benignly, and tell then to go sit in the corner and not bother anyone. They's be told to do up their hair, get leather jackets, and invest in distortion pedals.....
