This edition of "In the Cut" I talk a little more about cutting tool geometry. Specifically radial and axial rake. Feel free to comment about thoughts on improving my video series as well as more ideas.

Great video. Noticed the keyseat cutters have end clearance ground on each tooth...unlike the commonly available import stuff. Bet they cut great. :-)

Great videos Alfred! I think it's important for machinists to learn as much as they can about the tools they are working with.

Maybe I missed it in this video, but could you talk about how (or if) helix and axial rake affects a form cutter? Will it produce a different shape on the part than that's ground into the cutter?

Andre Gross it absolutely should not. The more challenging the form generally will dictate just how high of a helix is possible.

Awesome video Alfred. I noticed in the tour video you shot with John that you guys have a lot of K.O. Lee grinders there. Say you were going to buy one for your home shop, what would you be looking for? Do you think that would make an interesting video? They are just so versatile and compact, they would make a great garage tool. Cheers and thanks for all you are sharing!

Thanks! I've been digging into them some more after seeing how many different setups you guys were running on them. They are awesome little machines. A video series on what you can do with your K.O. Lee might also be cool. I'm really enjoying (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) learning about the details in cutter geometry so keep up the videos!

Is there any books you recommend as a resource for tool grinding? You do a really nice job with your videos, just watched them all. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!

Brian Krista I always refer to the Machinery's Handbook for most concepts and basic geometry but I've found that the tool and cutter grinder manuals are also an excellent source. The best by far is apprenticeship though. Books can only take you so far. The people that I train only really know when they can see through my eyes, if that makes any sense. Good luck.

Alfred Lyon Where do I sign up?!? 😁 I have a Covel #6 that I really want to learn how to use, but I also think this is fascinating work. Like what in the world was that cruciform looking tool near the end of this video actually for??

Sir how to program 6fluted diameter 20x6width which is 7degree positive and 7degree negative in Anca machine.

@alfredlyon27 6 жыл бұрын
Ankush Manekar it’s easiest if you have the “side and face cutter “ tool type but if you don’t then just add a tool segment with the other shear direction and opposing flutes
