Since spray adhesive can clog up machines badly, I use a stitch and cut ith method. I also find that pre-cut is hard to fit exactly and can cause slight gaps because of movement of stitching foot. To reduce shifting, it helps to pre-wash with stiffening (i.e. left-over wash-away stabilizer dissolved) and iron flat. 1. DL 2. Put down piece of fabric, stitch tack down. 3. Remove hoop (leave design in hoop) and trim close to line ith. 4. Stitch embroidery details. 5. Repeat for other details and back. What do you think?

There is definitely more than one way to go about doing applique and in-the-hoop projects!

If you use spray adhesive it is not necessary to use as much as she does in the video.

Thank you for this clear and informative video. I have so many designs from EL. Now I feel that I can produce a trivet that I can gift to a friend of mine. I wasn't sure until I saw this.

Too much spray adhesive for me. Prefer to use a glue stick or basting glue. Cute projects.

This video is very helpful. Thanks for sharing! I have trouble sometimes trying to cut my already stitched batting and fabrics close to, but not cutting through, the stitches.

I love all of these. I do have a separate question... if I get a new embroidery machine and it downloads a different type pattern than my current emb machine, is there a way to convert them over?
@EmbroideryLibraryEL
@EmbroideryLibraryEL 10 ай бұрын
Yes you can! If you go to your profile, you can set your preferred format. Once you do, your downloads page will default to your chosen preference. If you have more than one machine, you can also use the dropdown menu that is below each design on your downloads page and select a format on an individual design basis.

Can I use Heat nBond Light instead of the spray adhesive?

We have never tried this, so we can't speak to whether it would work or not.

Yes! Heat n' Bond Lite works really well. Just apply to your fabric then hand cut out the applique pieces, or scan/import the Die Lines into your cutting machine and cut them out. Just remember if you cut them fabric side down then reverse the DL shape. I usually leave the paper backing on the Heat n' Bond and place that directly onto my standard cutting mat and leave the DL shape as is.

I love your videos! I was too confused to try these before, but now I am ready to give it a try. But I do have a question: When you say "Anytime you see a die line...". Where do you see this? Will it show on the machine display, the way color changes are shown?
@EmbroideryLibraryEL
@EmbroideryLibraryEL 10 ай бұрын
There are two types of dielines: the first is a fabric pattern dieline. These files are separate from the full embroidery file and labeled with a DL. They should not be loaded with the full embroidery pattern, and only used for cutting out your fabric shapes. The other dielines are placement dielines that are included as color stops in the full embroidery file. These will be a single line of stitching that matches the shape of a pre-cut fabric piece. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to email support@emblibrary.com

I love these but I do have a question. I have two embroidery machines, one does 4x4 workable area and the other 5x7 workable area, will these patterns fit either of those? My problem seems to be most of these wonderful designs are to big for my machines. Please let me know if any of these patterns will work for me, thank you so much.

Most of our coaster designs should work for you! Our mug rugs and trivets, however, usually only go down to a 5x7 size.

Can you use white bobbin thread?

Since mug rugs, trivets, and coasters can be seen from both sides, we generally recommend that you bobbin match.

The cut line would refer to where you cut when cutting out your fabric shapes using the files labeled with a DL. The DL files are your fabric pattern. With our method, we recommend cutting out your fabric prior to stitching. You print the DL files using embroidery software, then use them like a traditional fabric pattern.

1. After the placement line has stitched, I use 2-inch blue painter's tape to hold the over-sized fabric in place. 2. After the machine has tacked the fabric in place, I remove the hoop from the machine, DO NOT REMOVE THE FABRIC FROM THE HOOP. 3. I use a pair of double curved scissors to trim away the excess fabric. 4. I place the hoop back on the machine and continue to stitch the next step. I'm an asthmatic & stay away from aerosol spray. I also feel that the painter's tape is a lot more economical. I have been using that roll of tape for several months. I hope this is understandable and best of luck with your applique.

The biggest mistake is using too much spray adhesive. I prefer to use the Sulky brand. You only need a LITTLE spritz to hold the pieces in place.... I use about one-quarter of the spray used in the demo. Regular school washable glue sticks also work.. once again less is best. For large pieces of fabric blue or green masking tape works really well and doesn't leave a sticky residue. There is even a washaway embroidery tape you can purchase for use in those areas where you need tape but have difficulty removing it after the project is done.
