Bishop Michael Reid: Thank you for addressing this subject. So many have bought into the deception of the phrase "in the name of Jesus/in Jesus name" having power. In the "name" of Jesus, is synonymous with authority! Name is this passage and many others is interchangeable with authority. Just as a law enforcement officer would say "stop in the name of the law". What he is saying, is, by the authority of the law given me, I command you to stop. In the same way we pray, speak, ask and command in the authority of Jesus Christ given to us by God through our faith, confidence and trust in God. So many people use the phrase "in the name of Jesus" or "in Jesus' name", like it is some magical incantation to be spoken at the end of a prayer, or when they attempt to command something to happen. "In the name of Jesus" is not some magical wizards spell to be used like a magician would use "abracadabra". This is witchcraft, thinking you can manifest something through this phrase.
