The thing is there are so many people in similar positions all trying to get on and move up somewhere, the long and short of it is, it's about whose willing to give you a chance in the first place. Not many people are that lucky, and in that sense, these people have being very fortunate to be given that chance. They could just as easily had it the way we have it and nobody giving one at all.

@expansie A record producer is an individual working within the music industry, whose job is to oversee and manage the recording (i.e. "production") of an artist's music. A producer has many roles that may include, but are not limited to, gathering ideas for the project, selecting songs and/or musicians, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the recording sessions, and supervising the entire process through mixing and mastering.

Exactly, many people in that situation and worse love, I understand. Best advice I would give you is to save up, get some equipment cheapish in price and record your own shit for yourself because to be honest the amount you spend on so many studio sessions anyway you might as well have something of your own where you can record when you like. Even if the quality isn't great you can have more chance of it being heard and things can always be re-recorded anyway, and usually, they'd want that.

I agree to a certain extent. Money should not be the driving factor of your music but just like anything else you can't make a career out of something that can't at least support your basic living expenses. I know guys who make music and tour the states but still don't have anything to show for it. no car, no home and no dough. At some point and time we all hit that fork in the road, Career vs. Hobby and unfortunately the biggest separating factor is the ability to generate revenue.

@expansie The definition I gave is actually the verbatim definition of a "Music Producer" on Wikipedia. Dr. Dre is an established brand, having his name on a record is equivalent to having Steven Speilberg's name attached to a movie. There are millions of talented beatmakers out there but let's be honest would anyone know who Melman was had it not been for Dre's 2001? Even in Scott Storch's case Scott was just a keyboard player up until the point he worked with Dre.

#1 Get gear on your own. Make demo's and find a label that will give you a shot. #2 Find other musicians, join forces, buy gear together that you all need. Maybe you fellow musicians have the gear already on their own.

@phobiaguy Being a composer I totally agree with you. However, I hear what he is saying though.. It's nice to make money from your music, I wouldn't say no! I could do with it, and it's practically like a job to me as it's my entire life and it's work, but unfortunatly many composers never do get paid for their lifes work. The music industry is a dirty ass game, I wish you didn't have to worry about getting screwed over every minute of the day

see the problem is not rappers rapping about what's happening in the ghetto and stuff it's them glorifying it.They glorify the violence, killing people, selling drugs and calling women hoes and bitches. They're making it seem like a good thing and that it's good to do it or something.....that's the only thing. The violence is not bothering anyone it's just rappers glorifying the shit out of it and disrespecting women.
