On the 30th anniversary of Metallica's classic heavy metal recording "Ride the Lightning," producer Flemming Rasmussen visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, where he shared why it was like recording with Metallica. Flemming Rasmussen produced three of Metallica's earliest recordings: "Ride the Lightning," "Master of Puppets" and "... And Justice for All." Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

A wishful thinking shared by many. But ain't gonna happen. These guys can't write another good thrash album anymore, they changed like everyone does. Sadly they playing it safe and will release a Death Magnetic alike album probably with Rick Rubin on board.

each producer has brought their own talent to Metallica ... its all evolution. There is only different tones of Metallica, not a better or worse Metallica. One can grow or not, along with them in their sound. There's no right or wrong. We're each different in what we access and illuminate. We all resonate for different reasons at different times, and so Metallica IS, and we each are ... and some of us will prefer some and not prefer other parts of their musical journey. Flemming is not who I imagined. I thought he was a Dane, for one! With that name, i pictured a Lars compatriot ... and maybe he is? I'm no expert. But it's cool to hear him talk about his part of the Metallica story. Cheers to all Metallica fans everywhere

What people fail to understand is that Metallica will never truly be able to reproduce the first 3 albums. Cliff is gone and he was a HUGE influence on how the band wrote, played and thought. Plus, they're HUMAN. You can't spend 30 years on a linear path, writing the SAME music year after year and stay fresh. Would you want to to the exact same thing every day at work for 30 years? Hell no. That's why they've been able to stay together this long. They've been free to explore what THEY want to play. They're artists. As much as you might want, you can force them to write what YOU want to hear. I for one like everything they've done (except the snare on St Anger) yeah its different, but it's all GOOD

@@jasonfisher3823 Bob Rock is actually very good, Metallica themselves wanted a change after touring on the And Justice For All with 9 minute long songs and a bit too complex that touring wasn't as enjoyable, so they wanted to make a Touring Album, Bob Rock adjusted himself to the sound they wanted and introduced them to a new style of recording tracks. Rasmussen wouldn't have made much of a difference either when their both paid by Metallica to record their material in the best possible production available by budget. The quality of Black Album was excellent, if you don't like the songs, then blame Metallica for that.

It went down hill starting from the black album. Also it was downhill from James' voice starting from 1987-1988 because that was the period he mourned Cliff so he just decided to yell his lungs out. It was good he stopped that because he could have damaged his voice doing that any longer. If you hear the vocal track on Garage days revisited or Justice you can hear him clearing his throat often. In about 1993 is where he started losing his voice. Maybe if Cliff had not died maybe they would not have changed to Bob Rock for the Black Album, go more grunge on Load and Reload, Alternative-ish on St. Anger, As well as the Drop C tuning, trash can snare, and no solos on St. Anger. Maybe if Cliff had not died maybe the rest of the albums after Master of Puppets would still have they're Thrash Roots.
