This is such a great story. Not necessarily for its content, macabre as it is; but more so for the dark humour, somewhat meta storytelling, and the sublime imagery the Lovecraft weaves into it.
Due to the prevalence of the revenge story in our culture, this one might feel somewhat predictable… but you are not going to hear any teen slasher film using dialogue that has this type of juxtaposition and metaphorical depth.
