Random Story: Back in the early 2000's I was a student in NYC, and I was walking along the west side of Central Park, and I saw the trailers and the crew, and I knew they were filming, it wasn't an uncommon thing to see on the streets of NYC, and then, out of the trailer, came, I would say it was Jerry Orbach, but no, with his suit on and trademark smirk, it was Detective Lenny Briscoe, he walked by me on his way to where they were filming, made eye contact, gave me a slight smile and nod to say hello. I got to see Detective Lenny Briscoe in person. That is all.

I'm not sure if my story quite makes it clear, but I've seen actors and actresses in person before, and its usually a bit of a let down, you don't see the character you know them for, you see a person doing a job, portraying the character you know. But that time, that one time, it really was like NYPD Detective Lenny Briscoe had popped off the TV and said hello. I never use this term, but it was, I will say, almost magical.

@FRANCO PEREZ But that example is realistic, factual and accurate. The only dramatised aspect was how clumsily the Police handled the warrant and search of the vehicle. They could have applied for the warrant either first thing in the morning and arrest him half-way to his work, or in the late afternoon and got him on his way back from work. When conducting the inventory on the car, they could have produced a report stating the there was a very strong smell of vomit and that gave them reasonable grounds to suspect there was evidence within the car and applied for a further warrant to carry out a forensic examination.

@FRANCO PEREZ When you are on one side you stand by it, do what is better for it. The more you side is ACTUALLY a side the less you care about other sides. Hypocritical but natural. It leads nowhere good. Or else the Boy Scouts wouldn't be in the trouble they are in.

@Franco Perez. Thank you for the information. I checked and it was correct. I am now better informed about UK law. But you could have said this in the first place rather than your rather insulting first response to my honest inquiry. But, although you have informed me that in UK it is illegal for the police to lie to a suspect, you have not explained why it’s wrong to do so.

@ Franco Perez. Your first reply was “You’re kidding, right?”, which I felt was an insulting response to an honest, polite question, if one from someone who was ignorant of the law and who had not fully considered the idea, but still an honest one.

Bail was reduced from State's requested $500k to $150k. It worked. Judges make comments but they rule objectively.

Briscoe and Logan in my opinion were the best cop duo on Law and Order followed by Briscoe and Greene, it's a damn shame that Jerry Orbach died before his time because Det. Briscoe was one of my favourite L&O characters.

He's one of my favorite TV detectives ever. I liked him even more than Lt. Columbo. I put him up there with Kojak and Detective Pembleton but a step above Detective Larue and a step below Detective Sipowicz who is my favorite TV Detective.

Their demeanour would be a lot more formal in a trial setting. Arraignments are boring and there's dozens of people to go through. They just want to keep the line moving.

Original L&O was so amazing because of the realism - most episodes came down to a mistake or shortcut by the police or DAs. In this episode, Kincaid clearly tells van Buren it’s going to be 1st degree manslaughter and she walks in and arrests him for murder.

I've seen this happen before, the cops get a warrant based on a charge that barely holds. But a high-paid lawyer can get it thrown out.

Most of the time you have to grab what you can and hope what you find makes it legit. That's reality for cops especially when they deal with uptown criminals. Unfortunately, that's also something corrupt cops use to just arrest anyone they want to. Wrong address? Well, turns out they had this bag of coke in their front room.

Jon Cypher--the villain in this episode--was excellent as Marine Corps Brigadier General Marcus Craig on MAJOR DAD (1989-1993). He joined the cast in the show’s second season, as did Beverly Archer as Gunnery Sergeant Alvah Bricker. She was excellent, too. Looked like she WAS a leatherneck.

John oliver did a segment on law amd order on his show, and cop actions, like what happin this clip was one of the things he talked about They pick him up in his car on total BS charges bc its the only way to search the car they wouldnt be able to access otherwise based on the law & their evidence And millions of ppl (myself included im not slighting anyone) root for them while they trample on ppls rights

This whole case is laughable. They act like Mr. Cayman shot his niece at point blank range execution style. They make him out to be a criminal mastermind. What was he doing with her in the car, just roaming around the city to pass time until she died? He was obviously taking her to the hospital. The maximum I would give him if anything is 5 years just for the fact she was under his supervision when she died.

Always made me angry that the das office was totally fine with violating constitutional rights and mocking the ACLU which has largely helped citizens defend themselves against unwarranted and unreasonable searches and siezures.

We have law that protect the rights of people be they criminal or other wise not in some sort of insidious plot to undermine Law & Order. We have these law because historically people have used the guise of Law & Order to serve their own agenda be they insidious in nature or not.

How come its impossible to find ANYWHERE seasons 3-15. And Yes, Peacock does have Law and ORDER and ONLY THEM. But...even there, seasons 3-13 ARE NOT available. this is a bullshit deal. I don't feel like buying the DVD pack because I cannot play DVDs on my PC as it is damaged. Because of my lifestyle I DO NOT OWN a TV or want a TV. So I HAVE to stream. Does anybody know WHERE i can stream Law and Order? AND NO, I DON'T WANT season 316.5! I don't want season 22. I want....seasons 3-12!! Surely someobody can help me. AND NO i don't want bootleg dangerous websites that have no reputation.

Always hated Adam Schiff. His go to line seem to always be "...Cut a deal!" He always came off as the most political of DA's and was never really about justice.

i liked schiff a lot, far more than branch. he was a weary, pragmatic voice of worldly cynicism to act in opposition to stone and mccoy's ideological convictions. he's a buffer between the purely political machinery above him and our protagonists below him. he lets them operate on their convictions within the boundaries allowed by his position within the system but forces them to stay in a box where he and they can be protected. early l&o has a lot to do with the interface of individuals and institutions, and adam schiff works within that framework really well. right around the time he leaves it just becomes aimless gibberish and i think that's causative honestly
