LOL at the last part. I thought about doing something like this, or just jam a hose out under a slightly opened window; but not able to close & lock the window completely worries me a little, decided to not mess with it at all. I may be singing a different tune if I had the same security personnels that you do...

@@InappropriateReefer you could cut a piece of wood to put between the top of the window and frame that would block the window.

How do you seal the gap between the two pieces of glass where the frames overlap and seal when the windows closed completely

You’ll get there man I’ have a 90gal reef tank at my parents while I’m living in a apartment waiting to get a house in a year or so then I’ll get her back but I remember working hard back in high school to get my reef tank and getting everything set up from equipment to live stock just be prepared to spend more than you expect!

I have not tried diffuser over the G5s since I did not notice any disco-ball problem like I did with the G3s (may be due to mounting height and water surface agitation). I'll take a closer look in the AM to see if I notice any of the color breaking up or acting funny... if I do, I hate you.

Why does your salmix choice impact your pH level? Genuinely curious. You mean just by keeping higher Alkalinity?

@@federicomanglavite9897 Hi, yep. Not all salt mixes have the same levels of ph or alk, or trace elements for that matter 🙂.

@@federicomanglavite9897 ur just messing with me now right? my ph rises when my alk rises, not 1:1 and there are diminishing returns, but it does... don't trust me look it up 🙂 or better yet to a 5 gallon bucket test urself.

@@spicyreef lol not messing with you, just it's a direct result of the higher alk, not of anything else specific to a given salt mix.

Thanks Tyler! I don't really do anything special for them, I think maybe my clownfish feed these nems well. (sometimes they grab chunks of food and dash back to the anemones to feed them)

I have not done carbon dosing so I am unfamiliar with the interaction with higher Alk, I'll read up, sounds interesting.

I actually haven't run into this Alk increase, Alk consumption slowly ramps up for me over a few days, but I have not noticed a spike in Alk from the recirculating scrubber.. 🤔 If I were to encounter this and want to only scrub part of the day, I would use my controller to run solenoid to control whether the skimmer pulls in the recirculating air, or fresh air. Alternatively I may put a T with an air pump pushing fresh air into the line, and use a timer to control when the air pump turns on. These are just ideas though that I have seen/heard people do, I have not actually tried these yet.

@@InappropriateReefer Thanks for the great ideas, I have an extra air pump lying around, will install it on a T splitter and a timer. I would really like to raise my pH from 8.0 where it sits most of the time, especially in winter.

Curious which trace elements you DIY? I'm also trying to learn more about bacteria, waiting to learn from the trail blazers whom experiment and share info. What I'd give to have answers to what causes brown jelly disease and random corals receding... etc.

I have not tried it, mostly ATI ICP (which tests most of the trace that I dose)

It swings between 8.3 (night) - 8.45 (day) these days

I was able to keep it dialed in using a pump with all for reef.

Honestly get a bigger tank, I went from the 13.5 evo to a 25 gallon lagoon and it made such a difference. Having such low volume but heavy stock, it is impossible without a trident to keep things stable. I did the same thing too, 20% water change but if you go above a certain threshold of bio-load, that can only help so much. I only wished they made nano skimmers better.

When you say your Alk creeps up on you, are you saying that your Alk is actually increasing from the 8dKH that your tank should sits at, due to the salt mix & weekly water change?

3x a day via auto-feeder, and I hand feed once or twice a day as well

It wasn't cheap to begin with, however, if a newcomer does a fair amount of price research the hobby becomes much more affordable.
