Well, it's finally happening....my first video of my garden. I've been hearing I should post videos of The Yarden. So here we go. Had to start somewhere, and right now the clematis show is beginning, so figured this would be a pleasant beginning. Hope you enjoy it.
A big thank you to Brie Arthur @BrieThePlantLady for the support and encouragement, and maybe even a little bullying😉

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE 'Arabella' !! I have eight plants and today I took another dozen cuttings, thankfully I'm good with rooting cuttings. I grow many large flowered clematis and tend to select the moderate to large growing varieties. Some of my absolute favorites are 'Perle 'd Azur', 'Ville de Lyon', 'Romantika', 'Florida Sieboldii', 'Pernille, 'Super Nova', 'Warsaw Nike', 'Jackmanii Superba', the latter is soooo very often mislabeled and hard to come by! Oh, also love 'Princess Diana' and 'Polonia' ... I NEED to get 'Samaritan Jo', yours looks wonderful!!

Thank you for checking this out. Unfortunately the current heat wave and harsh drought are severely stressing the garden so I have taken pause on posting anything else. Not been very inspiring, and sorta in survival mode at this point. I am saddened at the apparent loss of a few of my clematis, namely 'Princess Diana', 'Princess Kate' and 'Ville de Lyon' but there will hopefully be another opportunity to try in the future, and there's always the hope they have retreated into dormancy and will return another season.

@@TheSabioYarden I understand, the weather is worrisome, I'm in region of normally rather moderate summer temperatures, this spring had been so very cloudy, windy and cool, now though the HEAT has really cranked up and appears we're in for a record stretch of taxing high temperatures, most worrisome is the field crops that are already under drought stress, either the world is burning up or it's flooding out these days! As for clematis and all plants for that matter, I'm a overboard soil amender, well by that I mean I dig very deeply that all enjoy a free root run, clematis in particular love their roots to go deep! For the large growing type 3's, one would think I'm digging to hide a body rather than to plant a clematis, lol. Oh, I just checked, the 'Pernille' and 'Super Nova' cuttings I struck about six weeks ago have rooted.

Thank you. Fortunately, being a wooded lot, there is a substantial amount of wonderful soil, so clay is not a big issue for me. I have to dig pretty deep to get to that. Definitely look at some of the texensis varieties, like Princess Diana and Princess Kate - they kinda want endless sun, from the ground up. @TheSabioYarden
@TheSabioYarden 2 ай бұрын
@@upgrayeddnotsure9994 Yay!. You could continue to grow it in a pot without much to fear. And as for winter, I wouldn't worry too much outside of an extreme cold spell, but the nice thing is you could move the pot nearer to the house or in a protected area all together during that time. And maybe consider keeping it in the pot for a season anyway to develop a stronger root system in the event you want to put in the ground later. I generally prefer them in the ground, though a few I do keep in pots, usually smaller compact ones, but I admittedly don't like maintaining lots of pots because so much more is dependent on me. I think Mother Nature does a good, and even better job, so most do go in the ground. 'Jackmanii' is fairly vigorous when happy, and can grow quite tall, so at some point putting it in the ground and letting it go to full potential might be worth considering. I will be showing this one in an upcoming video soon and you will see what I mean. Enjoy

How much sun does your Arabella and Angelique get? Your Arabella seems to be in part shade, based on the azalea. A web vendor has Angelique as being shade tolerant. (just subscribed)
@TheSabioYarden
@TheSabioYarden 3 ай бұрын
Though both are part shade, Arabella will get several hours of sun during the late Spring and Summer months when the sun rides high over the garden. Angelique gets a bit more shade, albeit bright shade, and gets a splash of it in the morning and then another bit of late day sun toward mid to late Spring. But by now the large Crepe myrtle is leafed out and shields it most of the day. By my experience, Angelique is certainly the more shade tolerant, and I'd even been willing to try it in the back garden that is mostly shade if I ever get another or propagate it.
@LinusCello75
@LinusCello75 3 ай бұрын
Thanks! I’ve got lots of shade and look forward to trying Angelique. Don Shor (Davis Gardening Show) grows Huldine with his red leaf Japanese Maples. He gets a kick when people ask him about his blooming JM. Maybe you should try since you have lots of JM?
@TheSabioYarden
@TheSabioYarden 3 ай бұрын
@@LinusCello75 I have Huldine planted, still fairly new and placed it wrong initially, so transplanted it. No blooms yet, but I'm hopeful. I bet it looks amazing in the JM, I can totally picture it. I have Acer palmatum 'Lileeanne's Jewel' ready to receive a clematis - I'm thinking 'Pink Fantasy' with it's soft muted 2 tone pinks to pick up on the pink margins of the leaves. Also for your shade consider 'Silver Moon, which is supposed to do shade well. I just planted this in a very shady spot in the woodland...we'll see. And for some more open bright shade, consider 'Abilene' and of course 'Samaritan Jo'. Enjoy your experiments.
