"The real point of the ending is that Cobb isn't interested in looking at the top. He's looking at his kids. He's moved on." -Christopher Nolan Also, I love the end of this movie because they gave Cillian Murphy's character a happy ending. It doesn't matter that they manipulated him, he became happier in thinking his father did love him so much.

@GhostWatcher2024 well that's the whole point of the movie, right? Cobb and his wife were happy in a lie. She wanted to stay but he wanted to go back home to the real world. He wanted to accept the truth, but that put him on a path to alter Fisher's life, who can never accept the truth, because he doesn't even know he's living a lie.

This is 100% an original story/script from Christopher Nolan. He actually had the idea some 10 years before the movie even came out. After his immense success of The Dark Knight, the studio basically said make whatever you want next, and he thought this was a good followup.

A few notes: 1) They actually did spin the hallway. They built a whole rig and built the set in a cylindrical setting, which they spun. There is video of it if you seek it out. 2) Everyone is saying you need to watch Interstellar, but some other great options by Nolan are Memento and The Prestige. 3) A lot of people cite Nolan saying that whether or not the top falls isn't the point, but Michael Caine said in an interview once that Nolan told him that any scenes he was in were the real world, so the end is the real world. Additionally 4) A lot of people think that Cobb's totem is the top. It's actually his wedding ring. In the dreams, he's wearing it, but in the real world, he's not. 5) The names of all the main Characters spell DREAMS (Dom, Robert, Eames, Ariadne, Mal, Saito)
@TheDaringPastry1313
@TheDaringPastry1313 Ай бұрын
Nolan loves practical, so if he can do it, it will be done. It was a physical spinning room with wires and choreography. The wedding ring on Cobb is one of the biggest indicator to the audience if he is in a dream or not. Ring on = Dream, No ring = reality.

Possible spoiler of the outcome: There is a token that was persistent in the film; water. The water is either clear or monocolor in a dream. But in that final top spinning scene, there are a couple glasses of water of different colors. So Cobb can’t be dreaming.

I think Cobb’s totem was actually his wedding ring. The top was Mal’s. He wears it in the dream sequences but not in reality. From what little experience I’ve had I believe a dream within a dream is possible. I’ve had experiences myself where I woke up and then woke up a second time, and though the dream was deep, so therefore I can’t remember what I was dreaming about, what I distinctly remember was I was in there for a long time! And the physics of the dreamworld and time passing, it checks out to an extent. I don’t know if it’s been thoroughly proven or if it’s scientifically documented, but I have had experiences very similar that I can attest to

Sam and Jake stood under the warm spray of the shower, steam swirling around them. Their laughter echoed off the tiles as they washed away the grime of the day. “You know,” Sam said, lathering shampoo into his hair, “I was reading this article about the history of hand jobs. It’s fascinating.” Jake chuckled, rinsing soap off his arms. “Only you would find that interesting. What did it say?” “Well,” Sam began, “it turns out that hand jobs were a common part of male bonding rituals in some cultures. It was more about camaraderie than sex.” Jake raised an eyebrow. “Really? That’s pretty wild. Imagine explaining that at a family dinner.” They both laughed, the sound blending with the noise of the water. “Hey, knowledge is power,” Sam grinned, rinsing his hair. Jake nodded, smiling. “Just another quirky piece of trivia for the books. Only you, Sam.”

1- this may be my favorite story about letting go ever. We all recreate an avatar of lost loved ones in our mind. Such a fascinating way to look at loss, and finally letting go of it. 2- I could be crazy, but for me this is the second of a trilogy about time from Nolan, Memento, Inception, and Tenet. 3- Tenet is amazing but…. You kinda have to watch it ten times, and probably watch ten explanation videos to even get to the tip of the iceberg of how amazing that movie is. Great reaction as usual👌

At the end, you see the top start to warble just at the cut. Honestly, for me, the top spinning non-stop would betray the WHOLE POINT of Cobb's catharsis and in my opinion make the movie less than. That's my take on it... and for me, the top does stop as Cobb finally came to terms with what he did and was finally ready to move forward.

Seconded. I mean, not my favorite film ever made, but it’s amazing, and they should watch it. Tho, SPOILERS… I’m still unclear why they needed to find a new planet AND solve gravity. With a new planet, they could just use rockets to move people there. With the space stations (solving gravity), they seem to be doing fine for decades with no new planet. So the NEED for both seems unclear.

Director Christoper Nolan said this film is the metaphor for filmaking. Each member of the team serves a role that has a movie analog. The Architect (Ellen Page) would be the production designer. The Forger (Tom Hardy) would be the actor. The Point Man (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) would be The Producer. The Extractor (DiCaprio) would be the director. And The Mark (Cillian Murphy) would be us-the audience.
