Please hit the like button if you enjoyed this. Razor clam catch cook and clean with a shovel, all on the beach. Also some footage of kites and people digging with clam guns. In the second clip I said it was ten minutes to 7 but it was actually 4:50am.

That was an interesting video and for me very surprising. The reason why was those razor clams looked so much different than the ones I collected as a teenager on Cape Cod. The shells on those clams were very thin and looked exactly like a straight razor. You would typically find the empty shells on the beaches there. So my friend, who had a small boat, and I left Wellfleet harbor one day and headed to this sand bar with the idea we would dig for steamers. Well we didn't find any but we did find a bunch of these razor clams which we just broke open, washed off, and ate raw on the spot.

Our rules say you have to replace your divots. I see your diggers don't seem to care about the other critters living in the sand/mud/rocks. Your shovel lifting doesn't disrupt much. I dig for Horse Clams and shovel is the only way, of course HCs don't go anywhere they just draw down their syphon. I like to clean at the water's edge and feed the guls. Thank you for sharing your digging skills.

I used to live in ocean shores many moons ago and loved clamming... enjoyed ur video very much. I cannot remember the limit but i think it was 15. I could never master the shovel, always used a clam gun...... we did the frying but fritters is what we made the most, so so good. I dont ever recall making chowder but im sure it would be fab. I really miss those days. We would walk down the jetty and fish in the summer, omg...so much fun and great memories... we would get tube worms as bait for fishing.

This is great! I just saw this. I went to the beaches somewhat north of you back in May because I was pinched for time (I live in the Tacoma area). I got my limits but it wasn't as fast as you did because I had to share that beach with 5000 of my best friends. I started out years ago using clam guns but switched to shovels now and that's my preferred way to dig for these. I like to save the siphon tips and guts for crab bait. Nice video!

Ill probably try your method of cleaning them. Since Im two hours from the coast I usually toss the clams in my cooler and do all the cleaning at home and never really thought of cleaning them on the actual beach. I can use my cooler to just pack ingredients to fry em up fresh instead. Do you just store them like you did here in a tupperware and toss them into the freezer just like that or do you add water or something before?
@WalkswithMoss
@WalkswithMoss Жыл бұрын
This was my first time cleaning them on the beach and it sure was nice to not have to clean them at home after a long drive when I’m tired. One of the advantages of killing them with scissors instead of hot water is it’s actually quicker because you don’t have to spend all that time boiling water.
@WalkswithMoss

I just stored them in the lock and lock container in my cooler with ice. I did not add water I never do.

What do they taste like? Are the diggers flakey and tender kind of like the texture of fried oysters?
@WalkswithMoss
@WalkswithMoss Жыл бұрын
The diggers are much more tender than the rest of the clam. The rest of the clam is pretty tough, especially the neck. I wouldn’t call it flaky though. Definitely not flaky. No part of a razor clam is flaky.
