The tip on the Eric Johnson lick to use your second finger backed up with the third is gold. These are the easily overlooked little tricks that can really unlock your speed, or just make certain licks much easier. This is why I watch videos that may seem elementary at first, yet you never know what very useful things you can pick up. Great lesson!!

Bro I’ve learned more from you than I have from anybody on KZfaq and that’s saying a lot because I’ve been playing since 2015 and have seen a lot of people teaching.. I wish that I could get with you on a personal level because there are some runs that I would love to learn how to play but just can’t figure it out… You’re a great player and teacher though hands down

1 thing ill say is dont always focus on slow, you need to incorporate sprints beyond your current speed even if they are a bit sloppy. Gotta do a bit of both

I wish KZfaq was around in the early 70s. Guitar Players now have it made. I couldn’t afford lessons because I was too young to Work. So I had to Play a Record over and over again to learn the Song and the Lead Parts. I learned all the Chords mostly by Books, and also by Ear. I then learned how to read Tablature. I eventually got to the point where I could play almost all of Van Halen’s Songs, and moved on to learning Satriani Songs, mostly by Tablature. But back then we are talking about Hours and Hours of Practice, and really learning to recognize Patterns by Ear. Now you just click on KZfaq and get excellent Free Lessons. I really liked the Eric Johnson Style Lick you were Teaching. Great Video and a Great Teacher. I plan on watching all your Videos. You’re never too old to learn some new Tricks. Subscribed.😁👍👍❤️

I had lessons in Jr High and it was worthless. They didn't even touch on basic essentials such as pick thickness, holding pick correctly, anchoring hand, angle of attack, pointing out I would go nowhere with the cheap JC Penny guitar with an action way off and strings an inch above fretboard (well close to it). I did learn to play somewhat reading music but have forgotten most of that and it's unnecessary.

Great lesson. The section on the Eric Johnson lick - I noticed that Joe Bonamassa picks this differently and he uses fewer pullofffs. You can tell this especially when he plays with no effects and with a small amp. He takes this concept to another level.

I noticed during that lick you start at about 11:10 that you play all down strokes when you play slow then you seem to do up/down/up, repeating when you speed up. Is that what I'm seeing? I've tried doing all down, then doing all alternate picking, and doing it your way (up/down/up). I'm trying to figure out what's the best habit to get into for the picking hand. Is it what feels best/most natural? Doing all alternate picking is complicated at first but seems the fastest when you get the hang of it (down/up/down, up/down/up). Let me know your thoughts. I ask this from a student perspective because these riffs are new to me.

You can generally get away with playing minor pentatonic over most chord progressions, especially in rock and blues. This lesson is focused on speed building, but we have plenty of other lessons on the channel that’ll help with playing over chord changes!

Put a backing track on and make up random combinations of notes within the scale and try finish random strings of notes with a note that's in the chord that's backing you. Backing tracks will help you alot even when just running the scale over them
