I love that puppet show. Jib and I are planning to visit a workshop where they make those puppets soon actually, there are only a few master craftsman left who make them. I have to take issue with your pad krapow tho... it did not look spicy enough. hahahaha.

Beautifully filmed. This to me is what makes Thailand such stand out destination - the culture. That temple was just so beautiful, the masks ( the performance ones not the surgical variety 😬) the food which looks so delicious and cheap. Just nowhere quite like it.

Thonburi was once the capital of Siam or more than 200 years ago before Bangkok. It was a province of Thailand same as Bangkok but later merged into Bangkok and becomes Bangkok Metropolitan.

Yeah! You’re in my hood! Thonburi is a hidden gem and that temple is my favorite in all of Bangkok. I felt the same as you when I first discovered it. No one talks about this temple.

Paddy, We live near Chonburi having lived in On Nut for 5 years. It's interesting to see you discover 2 temples we know so well. The giant Buddha is near completion. It can be seen from both the MTR and BTS stations locally. Best wishes, from Bangkok.

You should definitely spend a whole day in Klong Bang Luang! It is such a lovely area with delicious restaurants right next to the canal.

Nice job of capturing the Big Buddha's immensity!! Not an easy task. Sometimes, with such large objects, I give up trying with my camera and just look around for the postcard. Re discoveries, I play a game of getting lost and then finding my way back to a familiar place. I walked down a covered alley-way with some food stands (daytime) one time and encountered a rehearsal for traditional Thai theatre complete with the traditional theatre music. Gotta love that. Playing the game of getting lost requires reading the sun and shadows -- I would not recommend trying this in Bangkok unless you have some previous experience in other cities. dcb

This happens to me in not only in Bangkok , but often on hiking trails, Beaches and Parks around Thailand and S E. Asia. It helps to carry a compass and Google Translate😎🤗 You never know what you'll find off the beaten path 🍍🍉🍌🥑😘

I paid 35 in the same sort of set up in 2014. Okay, I had a little table under a flyover, but my God that's cheap. My pal was talking to his Thai ex. Food inflation is killing people. Apparently pork and egg prices have really shot up.

Beautiful, thank you for this trip, BKK has such amazing areas I lived and worked there for quite some years. Another very special city with lots of temples, unique temples are to be found in AYUTHAYA - I love this quite small old city with very old history and this some can feel and breathe in...but I am sure you will visit as it is not far from BKK at all.

@@asdangboonto1966 - - yes indeed, same on my side I have been in a 'wat' with the monks for 6 months, but it is about 18 years ago...and during this time I had a lot of time meditating in these old ruin temples, on the grass fields, riverbanks and in their beautiful gardens, I had been never that 'peaceful and relaxed in my whole life - will definitely do it again...actually this experience and my Thai-marriage got me to convert to Buddhism...

This is really satisfyingly my current wanderlust :) I am often in Thonburi when I am in Thailand and I have to try this food truck next time, because pad kra prao is one of my favorite thai dishes :)

Love all your videos but especially these, I love Bangkok and there's some great places around the Khlongs.. For big Buddha statues make sure you see Wat Muang temple in Ang Thong province! ( and whle you're there Wat Sang Kratai is worth a look..) Cheers!

Nice video, yet again. We went to the puppet show on the canal in 2019. As well as wandering around the klongs, feeding the fish and sampling the street foods. 50p for a meal is amazing, isn't it?

Wow, what a find! This huge complex of temple buildings (excluding the school) covers about 8 acres of land (34,000 sq.m.). That is massive! Certainly a research project for my next visit!

This is our area! We live in Thon Buri also, but close to the BTS station and nearer to the river. We've been here for over five years and we love it. That pagoda is one that I explored when I first arrived in Thailand (before the big Buddha was constructed). It's SO beautiful, and I was amazed that so few people are aware of it. One interesting thing is that this temple as well as a huge arena-sized one outside of Bangkok both belong to a controversial sect of Buddhism. An offshoot of sorts. I'd like to learn more about the differences. Anyway, great video as always!

Thank you thank you and thank you ..one thing let me share for Pad Ka Paow, we use Thai basil and call it Bai Ka Paow ใบกะเพรา not Ho ra pha โหระพา as you use subtitle in many clip so appreciate if you can correct thai wording for basil in next time. I love to see your clip and will see more and more . Enjoy in TH for you.
