We're admittedly slightly obsessed with slot canyons.
Thankfully, Southern California has some of the most incredible slot canyons just outside of Palm Springs. We ventured out for a day hike through the slot canyons of Mecca Hills, which included the Rope Canyon, Ladder Canyon, and Painted Canyon hiking trails. Awesome slot canyon scrambling, rope climbing, trail running, and ladder crawling... can there be a more perfect day hike?

Thanks so much! We were a little worried this one would pale in comparison to the Grand Canyon, but after that sufferfest it sure was fun to do some adventuring in a neat place that was easier on our bodies and left us with more energy to goof around and have fun. It's nice to mix it up with different sized adventures -- especially since we're probably looking at another epic sufferfest coming up this week 😱

WOW! Another great adventure, you guys - with some really cool Class 4 climbing in great chimneys. The ropes and ladders turn these into cool "via ferratas" that look like a blast for exploring. And that area looks fairly safe from unpredictable rainstorms - although the mud-sculpture appearance of the walls - especially in Rope Cyn. - surely speaks to some rampaging floods coming thru those things in rainy season. As always - take care - and Rock On! I'll be "back home" in LA next month - going to Big Sur for Thanksgiving!

Yes Ed! It's funny you say that because we were talking on Rope Canyon about what it would be like in a rainstorm. "Nature's Jungle Gym Canyons"....Hi You Two (smiles & hugs) Really different place. In a "good" different way. I used to have a small fear of these kind of canyons. I read a book about a guy who got wedged & stuck by a rock in a canyon. To be HONEST? The first few moments of this video? I was reminiscing that book. It took a few more moments for me to see the beauty & wonder in these canyons, and to shut-off the negative. "THANK YOU BOTH" for shedding a positive "LIGHT" on these canyons 4 me. (hugs) GOD BLESSES ALL. Footnote: Have you ever heard of that saying "You Compliment Each Other"? That's what us Folks witness while we watch you two, Elise & Adam. Whether you, Adam, are carrying Elise up a hill on your back. Or whether you, Elise, are carrying Adam further up that trail by your encouraging words. It ALL adds up to complimenting each other. And, we get to watch this LOVE in living color.

Aw thank you so much for that incredibly sweet comment. We’re in the car driving towards a big adventure tomorrow and it really cheered us up on our long drive. Was the book the one that got made into the movie 127 hours? We were definitely thinking about that movie/book while we were in the canyon also! But thankfully when you have two people you are less worried about getting stuck there without help. Anyway, glad we could bring you some positive slot canyon vibes! ❤️

Another great vid by you folks, these canyons are new to me having mostly done canyoneering in Utah. I guess I need to visit my adventure minded friend that just bought a condo down there. And I will suggest another adventure involving canyons, I'm sure you have heard of or been to Buckskin gulch, described as world's longest slot. To go down the major narrows from wire pass and out via the narrows of the Paria to white house in a day would be pretty awesome (I did this in 2 or 3 days once). I think a bit over 20 miles. But more adventurous might be Middle trail down into the Buckskin, cutting off a bit over 5 miles and supposedly most of the muddy pools that wouldn't be fun to run through. Also avoiding most day hikers. Not done that access but eyeing it for an upcoming trip. It involves some challenging climbs and perhaps a rappel or two, a 50-foot rope is recommended. In theory one might make a loop overlanding from white house to middle trailhead using gps. For the longer one you would need to shuttle for sure. Oh and both routes involve swims in the Paria narrows.

@@LiveHardxLoveHard Very cool. I've been researching more as well, its on things like summit post and hike utah and just saw a vid where somebody gopro-ed going up and down the main climb into the gulch.
