Incredible EURO NYMPHING during the GRANNOM HATCH

Жыл бұрын

Spent a Mid April day on my favorite Central PA stream. The Grannoms (along with some Hendrickson's) were thick and hatching all day. There were a few risers, but the ticket was Euro Nymphing. Being versatile was key: Double nymphing, single nymphing, dry-dropper and even a lightly weighted singe nymph in the skinny water proved to be the ticket. The Brown Trout were spread out all over, so the key was to constantly change tactics and weights.
I caught fish all day (along with some surprise brookies). The flies of the day were: size 14 and 16 natural Walt's worm with a copper bead. A size 16 and 18 natural Walt's with a pink bead. Size 16 and 14 Jack Daniel's (video will come soon) and a size 18 Olive flash perdigon. For a dry, I used a size 14 Corn Fed Caddis-Grannom.
It was a fun day out there and I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did fishing.
Tight lines!

Love your video's, all of them, fly fishing and fly tying. I believe you have the best and most informative trout fishing and fly tying video's on the internet bar none. I watch a lot of video's, but nothing I have found is as informative and educational as your video's. Thanks for all the hours and tons of fishing that it takes to make these video's. You also show a great diversity of trout, and the lessons learned from all of your video's can be taken to the streams, rivers, and skinny waters about anywhere... great video's, hope you keep them going.

Great video- love how you break down the water and show the drift lanes you're targeting and the considerations on depth (tucking it in vs. switching to dry dropper). Question for you: what kind of leader system do you use to enable the flexibility? (20lb Maxima like Troutbitten? Or something else)
@OldDominionTroutBum

Thanks Martin! Really appreciate it. I use a Micro-leader. It is a lot more flexibility than people think. Hi Cory. Love your videos. Random help request. I like to keep my Euro rod rigged and I break it down in half still rigged to store in the car. My question is for someone who does that…is there a good method to stretch/remove the memory on the mono?
@OldDominionTroutBum
@OldDominionTroutBum Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, FA. All you have to do is grab about 2ft or so with both hands and give it a stretch….just a slow pull. Keep doing it down the leader 2ft at a time. This should get the memory out. The best thing to do is use Sempe or Pezon & Michel, they both have zero memory. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

Cory, I just want to confirm, the entirety of the line you are working with your left hand, even during your longest casts, is your Pezon and Michel correct? Your Airflo Euro Line stays completely in your reel yes? I have followed your micro-leader formula, albeit with Sempe and just wanted to make sure I wasn't too long with my 18-20ft of Sempe. Thanks and great videos!

Actually no. In all but the shortest casts, I’ll have the fly line in my hand so I can start managing the line with it right away.
