The problem is that some people have expected systems such as Recco to be a sufficient safety precaution when skiing, but that is not the case. The system is so useless that big brands such as Norrøna no longer use Recco reflective tech in their clothing anymore

That "Kingii" is pretty brilliant. Sometimes a drowning will happen because the victim is disoriented, and can't even figure out which was is up, so I could see this actually saving a life. I wonder if it really works.

I'm guessing it won't. Why? cause those who need it won't believe they do. Drownings on Australian beaches are common, but almost universally tourists who ignored advice to swim within the flags or drunk people swimming after dark at unpatrolled beaches. Neither of those groups would buy or wear this device

@@richardhltrp1791 If Americans and Europeans do not want immigrants on their borders, then they need to demand their governments remove their militaries and the many terrorist groups aka ISIS from the countries of the immigrants. Trust me, they would much prefer to have their homes, family members murdered by US tax dollars and their lives back. Otherwise, Americans and Europeans are responsible for providing for these people.

You get good at what you do. If you enjoy designing certain type of technology, educate yourself enough about what can be done and what not with present day material and manufacturing techniques, you can become quite skilled at it. If you're _fairly intelligent_ like you claim, you'll grasp the concepts better than a dimwit. Good for you.

Lots of things do not make it past the "kick starter" phase. They have a product, even a good, polished product, but do not end up finding a solid marketplace. Many of the links are to other promo videos, but not to a company website, let alone anywhere you can make a purchase or find company contact info, sadly.

An entirely uneducated guess, but could it be to do with conductivity? White reflects heat, which would prevent the heat leaving your body in the snow? Very much a guess

@@adeshyrag You are correct, white reflects heat, while black absorbs heat... the vest is designed to provide oxygen for avalanche victims... it's colour should contrast against the snow for easier or quick identification.

Engineer Here... 1. Pretty good invention, it can help people only in the daytime though, I would re-engineer it for nighttime rescues. 2. The finder, it's not a new invention, it been around since 1999. 3. Earthquake Table good invention, but the con is that most commercial buildings have steel enforcements weighing 5 times that. which would still crush a child easily. 4. Firefighter backpack, the issues lies in the detection of flames not the water. You can have 20 gallons of water surrounding you but if you're trapped by fire, that water won't help. You will still get cooked, wildfire ranging from 25 ft away can cook your skin. Imagine if its close enough to use that backpack. BUT! its probably better to have it than not 5. Although not a bad invention. There are concerns, In the 1960's they use to have these for schools until they realized that if a building is on fire, they would easily pop which is what was happening. So they swapped the plastic out for metal slides on the side of buildings. Overall, it is based on how fast you can get out the house or building before those pop. 6. Snow Backpack: Good, but one problem, hyperthermia can set in around 10 minutes, which can kill you in a hour. When you're under snow it becomes very hard, and smothering to the point that snow is in your nose. you have to dig a space to be able to breathe. The problem lies with hyperthermia and oxygen. not just oxygen. 7. VERY GOOD! invention. The con would be shaking and the speed of the elevator. The wires could snap sending a person to there death. but never the less its better to have than not have. But there will be a lot of maintenance to keep those functional during downtimes. 8. ROCk barrier: Pay attention to the term " rock" ...boulders would smash right through that easily, landslides as well. Rocks weigh about 20 pounds only, 9. Philippines boulder system: The vegetation would allow the landslide to happen a lot easier. Bad invention, but not the worst 10. Frozen ice life raft: It's based around timing, when people fall through ice you would still have to get off that raft to save them, you have 1 minute before there legs give out and they stop kicking and sink... for someone that is panicking they will sink a lot faster around 30 seconds. If the raft inflates in 30 seconds, then you see where I am going with this. Drop the inflate down to 10 seconds and you'll be fine. 11. Waffle raft: GOOD< BUT ITS ABOUT TIMING..Timing ..Timing...but still good 12. Barrier: FLooding waters can get up too 4ft in 30 minutes, not as good 13. Great invention 14. Good Invention 15. Ok, but flood waters contain glass, sharp objects, sticks, and even metal. 16. Diver inflation device: Will more than likely fit white waters and rivers.. Lakes, oceans, and beaches. NO! it would be a terrible invention the faster you rise underwater the faster nitrogen can kill you. Decompression illness. 17. Irrelevant invention 18. I am lost, Yes cement, brick, always dilutes fire, it can't burn. 19. Not high enough flood breaker system.
@mehere8038
@mehere8038 3 ай бұрын
earthquake table, that steel reinforcing is to stop collapses in earthquakes though right? So this device is not designed for use in those buildings but rather for buildings that don't have that & are not designed to properly withstand earthquakes as a cheaper alternative to building to developed world codes. I do wonder what happens if objects don't hit it square on though 4. you need to update your info to climate change conditions lol it's 100 metres/300 feet from the fire that people's lungs melt nowadays 12. same thing, a couple of years back fire fighters in Australia had to drive street to street with sirens on & evacuate warnings cause they had told everyone it was fine till morning but it wasn't. Within 30 minutes water had risen WAY more than 4 feet lol. It rose 50 feet within 6 hours in many places, leaving lots of people trapped in & on their roof & near cyclone winds preventing choppers from pulling them off 16. ROFLMFAO! it's not designed for divers! It's designed for people NOT using diving gear, where nitrogen is NOT an issue & besides, nitrogen is not an issue if the person has no air to breathe! They are simply transported to a decompression chamber once brought up to the surface to reverse the bends Very opinionated views, most of them are totally missing the point of the inventions or stuck in "facts" that you believe but have no bearing in the real world. PLENTY of people have survived falls into water from ice for example by simply holding onto the ice until help arrives. There was even a video of a dog that did that, legs were completely gone & dragging behind the dog when they got her out, but she had still managed to hold herself up for 5 hours I think it was until help arrived - and she didn't die of hypothermia in that time, despite it being FAR more of an issue in that setting than it is a person wearing snow gear trapped under snow lol

@@mehere8038 Everything you actually said is completely outdated. Trust me, I'm sorry that you feel some kind of way about what I said, but nevertheless they're facts. Not opinions. I have been a mechanical and electrical engineer for 15 and 25 years there is nothing you can tell me that I didn't already state. I think you're missing the point on what I said
@mehere8038
@mehere8038 3 ай бұрын
@@Facts-pp3tr troll! No I absolutely will NOT trust you as you have zero credibility! As I said, everything YOU said is outdated, you can't just play a uno reverse card & say what I said to you back to me & think that somehow makes you right & me wrong. I gave you easily factcheckable real world examples of cases that prove what you said is wrong. I mean what a joke to try to claim you can get as close as 25 feet to a modern firestorm! The firestorm that hit Kingslake in Australia in 2009 (so putting your info more than a decade out of date) was measured to have had the power of 1,500 Hiroshima bombs! It melted any metal or other substances anywhere near it in the same way a nuke does. You cannot get 25 feet from ground zero of a nuclear explosion & you cannot get 25 feet from a modern day, climate change enhanced firestorm! Even firetrucks equipped with sprinkler systems to protect them will burn to a crisp in modern bushfires, again there are examples & videos of this happening & full documentation of it. I suggest you look at the CSIRO research on fire intensity if you want to educate yourself on just how out of touch & wrong your information is. CSIRO, if you don't know, is the inventor of the wifi you are currently using & a lot of other devices & research & they have far more competent engineers or all disciplines working for them & they can prove it, you cannot prove you have any such qualifications & even if you could, that doesn't mean you are not being lazy or intentionally deceptive with the "facts" you tell everyone to try to look like a big man on that CSIRO invention Stop being absolutely ridiculous! I would also point out that the measurement unit for all scientific endeavours & occupations, including engineers is metric or SI, so the fact that you consistently use an outdated measurement in your comment - one that you will NEVER find any journal papers using, even without any other evidence, proves that you are not credible in your claims of qualifications & competence & being up to date. I did roughly convert to respond to you, assuming you would not have the skills or knowledge to use the international standard measurements, but anyone with competence in any scientific field will always use SI units, NOT the ones you did!

well sort of. As I write this, northern Qld Australia is sandbagging for yet another cyclone, with repairs from the Christmas one not even close to complete yet & lots of people having a lot of fear as to how their already damaged buildings are going to fair with another one. I've lost count of how many they've experienced in the last 4 years but it's been a LOT! Many of these devices would actually be extremely cost effective & FAR cheaper than repair costs when not installed. More & more governments are installing climate change mitigation measures because of their reduced costs long term & insurance companies also offer discounts to those that invest in them

4:00 Slide to safety is interesting. The latest in a historic line of similar ideas such as fireproofed canvas tubes in the 60s, these things somehow haven't got over the parapet still. Capable of being used from the US 4th floor, UK 3rd, I can't find any footage of schoolchildren using them from this height. Or anyone for that matter. Bit sus. Maybe it's very strict regs for kids in ads, who knows?

Coined a specific term for it - "a line thrower." Who'd have thought?

So now it's not such bad advice to tell students to hide under their desks like we were told for bomb drills in the 1960's.

0:50 cool but I hope that smoke is not toxic. Also that thing need a training. For exemple, make sure nobody is in front of you... But seems a good invention IMHO.

It'd be amazing the stuff that we could come up with if we gave Vanessa a large budget instead of subsidizing SpaceX with government money.

That video clip showing the Recco system is misleading. That's not how the reflector system works and in fact, they're not considered decent methods of SAR anymore and as such, big brands such as Norrøna are no longer using the Recco systems.

Last time I remember Icarus (or Ikaros) wasn't known for throwing ropes but for fashioning bird wings which he attached to his arms. He failed, of course. I'm just waiting for a startup that (re)invents these same wings and tries marketing them to athletes. And fails.

No one is going to stay in those squares: theyr'e going to get their bodies out of the water and sit on top of it, taking up maybe at least 3 squares per person.

They didn't coin the term "Line-thrower" for that first invention. The Maritime industry has had line-throwers for a hundred years, for that exact purpose.
