I have been using these for years for berries and vegetables. Alpine strawberries do great here on the Oregon Coast in these containers and produce berries about 6 months of the year. I also keep my newly grafted dwarf apple trees in these for a couple of years before moving them to large plastic pots. No issues except the need to see things don't dry out.

Wow. I’m going to do this. I don’t want to spend much on soil and pots. Also, I have feral cats outside that like to dig and poop in garden beds so I’m going to switch to pots and grow bags. I’m going to reuse milk and water jugs too. I’m so excited to grow veggies and let my niece and nephew grow with me. They are going to be so amazed and happy that their plants are growing.

This is so cool, how come I did not know about this before??? I just bought a bunch of 1 gallon bags from your site, anxious to try them out , the kiddie pool set up seems like a cheap way to dive in to test this out without building stuff because I don't have any tools! ;-)

Beautiful! I'm about to experiment with grow bags for the first time and have been wondering if I need to get different sizes for different veggies. Would you recommend larger grow bags for root veggies/potatoes, or larger bush veggies like peas and bushes? Your greens are so BEAUTIFUL and inspiring!

you'll need to look up container sizes for whatever you're growing. even different carrots will require different depths, so it's a difficult question to answer~

I've done carrots and lettuce this way so I deem this a legit method 4 nice carrots in 1 pot. They grow fantastic in the pots especially if you have very dense and or rocky soil. The other good thing is you can move the plants around in a wagon or cart. Leafy vegetables like to bolt/seed if its too dry and hot. No problem just wheel them over to a cooler location.

How hard is it to remove a plant from the bag? I was thinking about making a 3" bag for tomato starts and up potting them as they need. I've got 30 starts inside under grow lights (1 shop light).

Garbage bag growing is excellent, can easily move in/out of the sunlight and cold. Also mobile garden when disaster hits and put in little red wagon and move your garden to safer location.

Another good point I need to make is that, a 1 gallon grow bag requires less potting soil than a 5 or 7 gallon, which saves money!!

Maria they won’t last in the sun your much better off with the Grow bags you can see the Amazing results because the Grow bags breath and allow for root pruning.

Larry, in another video you showed how you transplanted from 1 gallons to a 3 or 5 gallon, I think they were tomatoes...anyway is that always necessary? Can anything just stay in the 1 gallon or is that considered a started bag?

I make my own using felt from the craft store. You can by the felt by the yard or buy remnants. They are very easy to make and so much cheaper then buying them. I skimmed through your video but you did not give any info on how you started these? That's to bad you hid that information. Did you use seeds or plants? Did you start them in another vessel? That information would be helpful to many.

I love 1/2 gallon grow bags, BUt...I am tired of fungus gnats indoors. They form a wonderful habitat for EVERYTHING. Did you grow these plants outdoors on your porch? I am not really pleased with planting grow bags in the soil. I am planting my starts in rock wool and then going to transfer them to the soil under my low tunnel. Grow bags would be perfect if it weren't for the fungus gnats and spider mites.

Tonight I was SO disgusted that I took all the soil from around my swamp milkweed and put it in the microwave. That did not kill the spider mites so I put the soil in the oven at 400 degrees for 40 minutes then sat ALL of my soil out on the porch. I microwaved my bag of soil for 10'. Perhaps I'll be happier when these soil bound plants are out under my low tunnel?

You act like you invented "air pruning". I cringe every time you yank a half grown plant out of a 1 gallon plant and then stuff it into another grow bag that is too small for the plant.
