A full series of History Hit KZfaq exclusive videos on the rarest vehicles of the Second World War. From halftracks and battle cruisers to bombers and gyroplanes, join presenters Luke Tomes, Louee Dessent and James Rogers as they discover the extraordinary vehicles of World War Two.
In episode one, Luke and Louee attempt to track down the greatest monster vehicle of World War Two at Armour & Embarkation 2022, an immersive historic event which brings together dozens of original vehicles from the Second World War. The team's challenge was to find
some of the biggest, rarest and most impressive vehicles of the Second World War. Among the contenders were the M26 Pacific Dragon Wagon, the M4 High Speed Tractor, the Lloyd Carrier and the Mack NO 7½-ton 6x6 truck pulling a "Long Tom".
Military historian James Rogers then dives into the story of one of the world’s best known warships, HMS Belfast. The ship's service in the Royal Navy extended from the beginning of the Second World War to the height of the Cold War, during which its capabilities were tested and developed. In the episode, James discovers what made HMS Belfast one of the most impressive cruisers of the 20th century, and why so many people still feel a connection to this vessel today.
In the final episode, Luke and Louee travel to the Battle of Britain Airshow at Imperial War Museums Duxford to find the rarest, whackiest and most unique aircraft that saw active service in the Second World War. Among the contenders were a restored Bristol Blenheim fighter-bomber, Westland Lysander, Fiat CR.42 Falco, De Havilland Mosquito Bomber, Fairey Swordfish, Cierva C30A Autogyro and B-29 Superfortress

The Swordfish did not sink the Bismarck but disabled the steering mechanism, it was difficult to hit as the Bismarck's AA guns couldn't traverse low enough to hit them.

@@chocolate_monks7017 one Mosquito pilot once recounted, on a low level mission, he was flying at about 30 feet and was overtaken by another Mosquito flying underneath him, I can well believe that too.

My vote is for the Mosquito, a true multipurpose aircraft. It was a bomber (also used as a pathfinder), an intruder, a night fighter, also used for air reconnaissance, and on top of all that, it was highly successful at shooting down the V1 flying bombs. 800 of the total were built in Cansda, and 200 were built in Australia. In the mid 60s my flight commander was a former Mosquito pilot, and flew the intruder version of the Mossie from before D Day, then in Europe. He had some interesting stories, and loved the aircraft.

The massive build up for the battle of the Somme in 1916 is overwhelming to think about, in light of the D-day, it’s the greatest logistical operation and cooperation between nations in the history of mankind. Billions of rounds of ammunition, spare parts, spare tyres/tires cigarettes, water, petrol, oil, lubricating, grease, and over million American, British,Canadian ,French and Polish soldiers to embark upon the great Crusade.

Great video. I was expecting rickety, old, reenactment crones (the "i was born in the wrong age" kind)! These men were sharp, interesting, and knowledgeable. Not only was I mistaken - but very much impressed.

The Mosquito, has to win by far, the Daring raid on the gestapo headquarters in Denmark with the precious bombing to destroy 1 building, in France bombing a prison full wit renitence fighters who got arrested, and so many more. The swordfish is famous for disabling the rudder of the Bismarck just by sheer luck. And that's it. I really love watching your show. I learn a lot about history in common, specially ww 2 my favorite subject

Gentlemen; The Avro Wooden Wonder, the Mosquito, has to be the winner. I live in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, and we have one that was flown in, on its own wings just a few years ago. A friend and I visited the Museum at our airport just two weeks ago. It's a privately-owned museum, and the guides could not have been kinder nor more helpful.

A choice between the Auto Gyro & the Lysander? It would have to be the Lysander. Not only did they prove their versatility, but they performed beautifully in the Battle for Information & in the support of the SOE. The Auto Gyro was certainly wacky, but I think they would've been very one-dimensional & not as versatile as the Lysander, especially as technical advances came towards the end of the war. My vote is for the Lysander.

If it wasnt so rare Richard should put a set of Offenhauser 8BA Cylinder Heads on that Lloyd Carrier Touring. If notbing else it would look even meaner. I guess its ok since they did work for lockheed in the 1940s

Amazing in view of our loathsome political + civil service elites that even one light cruiser like HMS Belfast was preserved. In the US, it seems that the WW2 capital ships still extant as superb museums, equate to about a third of the USN's entire 1945 battle fleet. Yet not one of their equally famous and honoured UK equivalents has survived.

Not sure it works having a guy from Cambridge that has never been outside away from a five star hotel talking about rough conditions driving down pristine dirt roads. He has probably never had anymore a hardship than a hangnail. How about next show DAN SNOW you have some guys from Bovington and not some kids of your snooty friends that know nothing of being outside, WWII, Armor vehicles, or roughing it.

It's like Jerry frickin Springer almost. I half expected a chair to go flying across the room. This is the kind of behavior I'd expect from people in Florida. You should ask for a team up with Legal Eagle's channel Mr. Terry. He'd be able to sort out all the law stuff for you.
