Thanks for the feedback, best of luck with them. Breeding them is great because they reach maturity so fast.

is it necessary to cup check the egg on the fifth day?. There's no issues with the eggs getting cold? Or a cold hatchery incubator? Question is how should I keep it watered is it only 37.5 upto 4times a week? How long should u keep the humidity? Till it's hat hatched?

It is important to check the eggs on day 5 to ensure they are developing. If they aren’t then they will likely rot and stink up your incubator. It’s ok for eggs to cool for few minutes but would not waist time. Humidity is MOST important from day 15 onward so shell and membrane soften for hatching.

This year a few of us are going to start raising quail for the first time ever. Which do you think is better for a brand new beginner, starting with chicks or with eggs?

I started with eggs as they are easier to find. If you are going to raise them then learning to incubate will be important. Quail chicks don’t ship as well as chicken chicks so you would be looking to buy them at a few weeks of age if you go this route. I would suggest hatching your own, and reaching out if you need help.

What happens if you don’t use the cardboard? Will they still get moved?

I assume you are referring to the cardboard insert in the incubator. If I don’t use it the eggs still get moved but roll around more. The shell of quail eggs is more fragile than chicken eggs ( although internal membrane is tougher) so risk of cracking the shell is higher.

I have a question. I'm incubating eggs for the first time. Quail shipped eggs. Today is day 12 of the incubation and i candled the eggs and took away the ones that lighted up like a bulb. I did the autopsy on those and I could see most of them died in like day 5-6. That's the same day I did the first ovoscopy. I did it only on a few eggs, no more than 5-6. And I was relatively quick opening the incubator and picking the egg. I opened it once for each egg. The thing is, I am feeling terrible thinking I kill those poor chicks by opening the incubator to see what was going on in the eggs, if anything was noticeable already. I saw in many videos people doing this and it didn't seem such as a big deal to open the incubator that many times. Do you think it was such a big deal opening the incubator as for killing like ~10 eggs out of 41? Or could it have just been anything else? I have a Chinese forced air Tupperware with Styrofoam style incubator

You didn’t harm them, you can open the incubator and check the eggs all the way up to day 15. It is good to check as you did for non fertile ones or ones that stop developing because you don’t want them to rot when going into lockdown. Eggs that have been mailed have worse hatch rates than local due to temp fluctuations, time delay, shaking etc. it is normal to have some just stop developing. Hope this puts your mind at ease.

Thank you so much! You've just helped me learn. I am very sensitive and this is my first ever time hatching so ow I felt bad. So opening the incubator for a few seconds a few times it's not big deal :)
