99% of investors should stick with a low cost index fund. Put money in every month and let it compound for decades. There are probably less than 10 people who have the ability to outperform the market year after year and I can assure you they are not working for a mutual fund company or working as a financial advisor.

The 85% of funds managers underperforming the index provided is for any single year. More impressively and importantly is to look at that figure over 5, 10, and 20 years, where it increases to 90, 97, and 99%. That makes for a more than compelling case for index investing, and how very rare the likes of Peter Lynch truly are.

@@harleycartley3138 That's because funds have to constantly move with the market. If you are a long term investor that just buys and holds you can easily beat the market. If you just invested in the FAANGM stocks over the past decade you would have killed any index fund.

Same!! I was trying to invest in VOO and put $50/month in. I could NOT figure out how to do this until someone kindly told me that is an Index Fund (have to buy at the stocks price) not an ETF (can do fractional investing).

Is there some type of commitment when it comes to index funds? I hear you say it’s bad if you’re trying to be a long time successful investor but couldn’t I just take all my profits else where after a while? Btw great vid! Great video on index funds. You can't go wrong with picking ETFs or Index Funds, especially for beginners. Investing into and index that tracks the S&P 500 returns about 10.7% year over year on average. Your local bank offers less than 1/2 of 1% to hold onto your money. It's a no-brainer to go with ETFs or Index funds!

Index fund can come in an ETF or a Mutual-class. They are both still considered index funds though

Have you already covered the 2X 3X ETFs and the risks as with the popular TQQQ SQQQ. I hear some youtubers say they are loading up on at times etc but dont talk about the risks involved with those as with UVXY and others.

I do stand corrected and it's part reason why I am on here but considering the recent economic reaction, how safe are indexes? considering the fact that index funds only track the s&p 500 and most blue chips are underperforming.
