Gear skiving is challenging - but we have the right tool to support you in mastering it. Thanks to its shell mill holder, this skiving tool can be used in any suitable machining center.
Watch as we machine an external gear spline M5 (DP 5.08) Z+26 Profile DIN5480 from CK45.
Total machining time was 214" for 4 passes.

This being possible really is a testament to how completely ridiculous modern precision can get. It looks absurd.

Very nice. But why did they take "soft" Steel CK45?? they should have taken 18CrNiMo7-6 or 42CrMo4 to be a bit more realistic..

@rafaellastracom6411 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You would never use CK45 for a component that large. Of course, it is easier to machine.

Why would one not use CK45 for large parts?
@miguelcontreras5782
@miguelcontreras5782 2 жыл бұрын
@@impactodelsurenterprise2440 Yes you would, these guys dont know what theyre talking about, it all comes down to the application type, CK45 conforms to the AISI 1045 composition. It's used for most transmission and motor parts of medium strength. Case hardened parts such as camshafts, gears, rocking levers etc. Simple hand tools and various types of fasteners and fixtures, machinery parts and components with medium stress. Surface hardness of 57~62 HRC can be achieved with case hardening to a depth of approximately 1mm.

@@miguelcontreras5782 Exactly. I have seen a drawing calling out for through heat treatable carbon steel for what is essentially just a non load bearing bracket. Another even calls for non existential material size. And these are coming from large MNCs. Makes one wonder...

Well... Maybe, there's a gear grinding process in further operations, so no need in a good surface finish. In our workshop, gears are being made with allowance for further gear grinding, as they are going through carburizing, hardening, shot blasting, some machining inbetween, and at the end there's a gear grinding.
