India at that time was cleaner than today, with non existent traffic jams, Cleaner air, and a billion less people. I so wish we had a similar population still now🙁

With a billion population a the present rate of poverty India will never arrive to the high level of modern development. The sending in space of a space ship a smoke in the eye. Certainly higher level level scientists will benefit from the advancement of technology but the majority of the people remain at the lowest level as before because of untouchability-the bane of their society. The population increase negates all advancement they are making. The worst thing that happened to India is the abolition of the princely states. They are not a homogenous people and should have remained under the rules of the princes. I may be wrong and I hope so, but I don’t see a future for them before the end of this century. Over the tears I only so the population increasing from 400 million to over a billion.

Talking of population and poverty same applies with china too but see where China is now. They were nothing in 1940s-50s but now fully ready to overtake USA to become superpower of the world because they industrialized well in last 30-40 years (this goes with Japan too) but in case of India the 'real development' has just begun even though its not in full capacity but far better than before, so that's why its said that India can be a economic superpower in next 3-4 decades. Its all matter of time, perfect leadership and support of the young minds etc.
