India and the issue of NSG Membership - is an ongoing important issue, which is very important for UPSC Prelims 2017 and other govt. exams. Do watch it till the end to know the answers of all questions regarding NSG - its importance, membership etc.
Understand why China has repeatedly opposed India's inclusion into NSG and the implications it could have for the South Asian region. If India receives the membership, it will receive nuclear raw material for varied projects especially nuclear power which will certainly help in solving the country's power problem.

Since its foundation in 1975, all NSG members shall be NPT signatories. This has become the primary principle of the organisation. Now India wants to be the first exception to join the NSG without signing the NPT. It is morally legitimate for China and other members to upset India's proposal in defense of principles

India , Pakistan ,Israel , South Sudan (2011) are not signatory countaries and North Korea announced its withdrawal from the NPT in 2003 .

Sir, India is the only country in the world which use thorium instead of uranium because we have reserves of thorium and thorium is better option than uranium so why don't India use this point that after signing NSG india can help many countries in making thorium based nuclear power and they don't have to be totally dependent on the uranium.

Thorium based reactor are still not fully functional and still under development. India does not need NSG membership as we already have agreement with almost all nuclear country. But we this so that we have say over nuclear world.

Countries who are against India are also right in their own way.Because they have signed the treaty so as to get fuel for their reactors.But the problem is how India is geographically placed on map.Both Pakistan and China to some extent are the reason for not signing.

Amit Badhan if India sign NPT without getting NSG membership then as per 1970 treaty of P-5 nations India has to abandon and disarm all her nuclear weapons and only use it for civil purpose. NPT treaty says ...countries who have tested nuclear weapons before 1967 can are only recognized nuclear powers rest all are non nuclear states.but our state has tested in 1974 and 1998 so we being nuclear power state are still not getting recognition because the treaty says all country who have tested before 1967 only. India will not like to lose her status of nuclear state nor she should like to abandon all her nuclear weapons after signing the NPT treaty nor she wants any sanctions from globe.
