India Boils as Temperatures Hit 50C. Is it too Hot to Survive? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
India is sizzling amid severe heatwaves. Temperatures in the state of Rajasthan have crossed 50 degrees Celsius. Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing an unprecedented heatwave. Cooler states are facing record-heat. But this is not limited to India. Intense heat is stifling the globe this year. The Southern Hemisphere faces an unusually warm winter. Meanwhile, Asia and Africa are the worst hit as the Northern Hemisphere witnesses a record-breaking hot summer. In parts of Pakistan, temperatures are rising above 52 degrees Celsius. Is it normal for the human body to stand such extreme heat? How hot is too hot? Also, how does heat affect the human body? What can we do to beat the heat? Palki Sharma tells you.

The main threat in tropical regions is urbanisation, not carbon dioxide. Concrete and brick give no shade, prevent evaporation and store heat. Every building burns electricity, every car has a hot engine. Spread out, plant trees, reduce traffic, replace concrete.

Good. Now build on these advisements. e.g. Build underground [at least partially] to maintain constant temps, thereby using less electricity. cover concrete areas with pools of water, even if shallow, or paint areas WHITE. White fabrics may help to keep ground temperature down. Work in early morning, not the afternoon. Eat less, drink more. Cut your population down to half of what it is. good luck India, and to all of us in these Last Days of Human domination.

Cities need to change fast. How? Parks. Green areas. Not one or two, but whole neighborhoods with their own Food Forests. Communal collective farming in the cities. I have a flat with a two meter by four meter patio. It's covered with potted plants including avocado and mango tree saplings maybe two meters tall. The whole patio has over twenty pots with dirt and plants. It's cool. One single chair and one tiny table. You can do this too. Patios can have potted plants. Rooftops can have potted plants and wood planters for shade. You can turn off your lights and turn off your AC or turn it up to the maximum you can tolerate, maybe 27 C inside your flat. No room fans unless they circulate the hot air back to the AC thermostat. Turn off your TV and limit your cell phone use. Turn off your lights and fans. Just stop making heat. Just stop eating so much, cut your food intake, NO meat, no cooking, just fruit and maybe some rice at night or early morning. Drink water and NO alcohol or tobacco. Just make yourself as physically strong and cool as possible. Turn off your power systems as much as possible. Definitely walk to work. Take an umbrella for the sun and two bottles of cool water.

Absolutely correct and well said you hit the nail in the right place to awaken everyone you right and that will lead to famines and global starvation as the world gets hotter and colder in some places and production of food drops drastically in time on account of too much rain or no rain in some places as water becomes the new gold for the world and it will happen . Humans where will they migrate in time cause countries too will push back trying to feed their own people as resources will become even more scarce and I mean water in some places and too much in other places. Well I worked for several years in information technology implementing complex communication technologies the benefit we seeing today with enhanced social productivity and ease of communicating with others across the world and democratisation of technology and freedom to express yourself and get a global perspective and then switched over for enabling the poor socially displaced people and the homeless seeking my sense of purpose and finally to save the endangered species who have no voice of their own and given loss of habitat by mankind and many reasons of global warming besides fossil fuel burn and contamination of ground water table ocean pollution and and given our reckless need of consumption outstripping earths resources and given our explosive population explosion well their are many reasons each one connected to the others global warming has a variety of reasons and their are many owing to this build up. Nobody was willing to listen to us over twelve years back in lncluding all my given colleagues and it was frustrating when I got working alongside climate experts and with wildlife habitats trying to talk to industry corporates politicians and laymen and nobody was willing to listen and adapt to the new world environment and help save our natural habitats wildlife and forest and engage in sustainable growth and use of energy. Well whatever the world might say , the world is still not listening and that's because of the ignorance of many and continue to turn a blind eye . My own personal view given my extensive research that we have already crossed the tipping point whatever the UN may say , people never felt the sense of urgency way back then and even now. Climate change has many layers of factors it's just not carbon build up but we even have the problem of methane immesion which is even more dangerous than carbon build up besides the pollution of the oceans with many chemical affluents have been drained into the oceans rivers and groundwater table that has increased the toxicity of even the vegetables and grains we produce including meat and the use of plastic and the landfills pile up. Nobody was listening and considered most climate experts insane and stupid now let mankind and politicians including business people deal with it including miss guided individuals and godmen who talk a lot bullshit about religion and spirituality and given their egoistical posture . Climate change is real and at everyone's door steps some may be better off than others but it will cross all geographical boundaries. The day is not to far that food and water might turn out to be the new currency in the world. You right about what you said and the sad part is that nobody cares for the farmers who been speaking about this the loudest. That's the way things are and now climate change will begin to hurt and destabilize everyone including economies , it's just a matter of time before nations will begin to fight over water and food. I really what you said humans can still migrate what about plants and animals and trees and fishes and coral reefs. The complex nature of all like is related to one another and that chain has begun to break up this not about climate change its about global extinction of life here on planet Earth. I.hope people stop gazing at the stars and trying to find an alternative planet to establish ourselves but we try and tera form our own planet itself. Mankind is foolish and will continue to live and do so when the shit has already hit the ceiling and no amount of solar and wind energy will save us as it's not totally reliable and will not produce as much of energy we need and our need for more energy is only going to go up given our population expansions and given poor logistics by which we waste more rather than we share less with the rest of the world. What we have now on hands will be more dangerous than nuclear war or even AI war . This will be a slow process when the men on the ground will push back when the heat and cold gets into their minds and body that will alter them from being tolerant people no more. I love what you said you said it in the most eloquent ways. Thanks Moses

I do not understand why government is not talking about global warming and climate change? How can be GDP is so important for our country and not people's health? Nothing is important at this time than climate change. In the name of development we do things which increases carbon emissions and more consumption is carbon emission that we have to understand. We must save our natural resources to save earth. Population is the main culprit.

Because government and corporations ( fossil fuel companies ) knew about it *long* before you were born. Search for, "Like Exxon, Utilities Knew about Climate Change Risks Decades Ago". O yes the process has already begun , earth has now taken over control and she will do her own thing to purify herself and given rot that had set on on account of mankind's reckless behaviour and given greed over the loss of her other species . It's time to brace the final fall of mankind and all those who rapped her in the most ugly ways. People don't understand even after having a deep look in space she is the most beautiful and only one out here. The time is over for mankind time for other species that will and shall evolve to take over. All those godmen out here will stand exposed the kind of rot they spread and the lies they told everyone. The book of genesis had made it quite clear that man was expelled our of the garden of Eden quite early on to have listened to that snake and ever since then they neither did they completely listen to the redeemer that was sent , some perhaps did not everyone , so the time has come , the burn had begun and it would be both very hot and cold in places and all sorts of things will happen. Earth was at the centre of all creation , correct me if am wrong or find us a new planet if anyone has found out their in outer space that exist and habitats the kind of life forms and species we have and how we would all get their if we ever can. Well judgement day has begun not many who taught that it would manifest this way , the language in the Bible is cryptic and not understood by everyone and given their stubborn minds and nature. They still stubborn climate change will happen to my next door neighbour not me, well only time will tell and it's only here now and in the moment.

as per law of thermodynamics, heat flows from hot body to a cold body as long as the temp difference is more than 10c. so when atmospheric temperature crosses 47c, the heat starts to flow into the human body which is at 37c, but our body does try to protect itself by trying to cool itself. access to water becomes important in this situation, both internally and externally.

Absolutely correct you right, worked for several years in information technology implementing complex communication technologies the benefit you seeing today with enhanced social productivity and ease of communicating with others and democratisation of technology and freedom to express yourself and get a global perspective and then switched over for enabling the poor socially displaced people and the homeless seeking my sense of purpose and finally to save of endangered species who have no voice of their own and given loss of habitat by mankind and many reasons of global warming besides fossil fuel burn and contamination of ground water table ocean pollution and and given our reckless need of consumption outstripping earths resources and given our explosive population explosion well their are many reasons each one connected to the others global warming has a variety of reasons and their are many owing to this build up. Nobody was willing to listen to me over twelve years back when got working alongside climate experts and with wildlife habitats. Well whatever the world might say , the world is still not listening and that's because of the ignorance of many and continue to turn a blind eye . My own personal view given my extensive research that we have already crossed the tipping point whatever the UN may say , people never felt the sense of urgency back then and even now. Climate change has many layers of factors it's just not carbon build up but we even have the problem of methane immesion which is even more dangerous than carbon build up besides the pollution of the oceans with many chemical affluents have been drained into the oceans including plastic and the landfills pile up. That's the way things are and now climate change will begin to hurt and destabilize everyone , it's just a matter of time before nations will begin to fight over water and food.

Urbanising the globe comes at a price… and climate change impacts are multiplying quicker, can we help ourselves in the long term- improving environment can help- growing more trees, creating green spaces, avoiding designing cemented surfaces around towns and encouraging more natural surfaces with native flora. Keep India extensively green, organise human made natural ponds… we can only try.

Urban areas hold more people in a smaller space with less overall concrete and asphalt than if they spread out in a suburban style space. I agree there should be more natural surfaces. The urban areas could have parks and trees around all the spaces.

Good you observed that , now everyone can quit blaming the west and other states and examine very deeply their own spiritual intellectual moral and social ramifications and see if they can or cannot partner with earth cause she is the boss that so many stood to have neglected and rapped her in the most violent ways while her other species groaned by the trauma they caused by their own loss of natural habitat. Climate change is not only the result of carbon and fossil fuels their are many other reasons as to how badly we have treated the oceans rivers and the way we have treated her in the most violent ways. Think we have enough science data that has proven the fact that global warming and climate change is real but very few have addressed the spiritual side of earths own response and given her push back as well Things will only get more severe what ever others may tell you contrary to their given theories. We were expelled once from the garden of Eden and stood to have reconciled many did and will live and not perish and others who been pondering over the stars have found till date no other planet like ours and even if we're to find one how we going to get their. So mankinds as a whole or in parts time is up . The judgement process has already begun not as we understood but will over time if not all but a few and they have done their bit and said what they had to given the deafness of the ears of many.
