Coal India, the sole indian coal supplier's shares have increased almost to the tune of 33% in last one month. It is one of those low return, and high dividend paying equity stock. I know this as I am one of the regretful retail share holder in this stock. The company never meets its capital expenditure and revenue targets, has accumulated lot of account receivables, due to non payment of bills by power plants and still pays out handsome dividend to it's share holders, including the largest share holder Sarkar-e-hind. All that money which could be re-invested to improve the efficiency and increase production is doled out as cash. It's as much as failure of coal India as it is of successive central governments.

I know right. I always keep some Coal India share in my portfolio just for the dividends. Sold all of it yesterday!! But it's a good share to have if you can hedge it with options. Since it never moves anywhere one can keep making money from option selling and keep the shares for high dividends. My dad calls Coal India as "Governments Gullak(piggy-bank)"!! Jab bhi sarkar ko paisa chaiye hota hai Coal India will give dividends!! ☺😂

Think logically . china produces 10 times higher electricity than india . china consumes only 5% of Australian coal. It is banned now. That 5% is equal to 50% in indian consumption. India don't want that much coal. If india buys that much amount of coal from Australia indian coal mines get bankrupt. If india don't buy then Australian coal industry get bankrupt which accounts for 18% of Australian GDP.

@@tony-pc4kd how is it hurting him? It's hurting not only him but everyone. Every citizen of this country has right to question government policies, it's not just reserved for a self centred whiner like you. Morons like you have no idea about finance and economics work but are always on the forefront to teach others. Kejriwal has been offering free bus services to women, to even those who can efford to pay for bus tickets, do you even know what is the condition of DTC buses in Delhi because of this? AAP has not even added a single new bus to DTC after coming to power, 7 years in power but no new bus added, the buses which are running in Delhi right now are all purchased by previous administrations and are beyond their operational life time. Some of them have been declared unfit for operation but government is still operating them. The bus numbers are decreasing in number every single day when they actually need to add more buses to serve ever increasing population of Delhi. Same logic applies for other departments, how do any department expand and improve their services when all of them are running under loses and are in debt because of free distribution.

We developed a tremendous Uranium industry during WWII, so no one was interested, until around 2000. The original reactor was overly complicated, because (no joke) it was meant to power a bomber. India is moving rapidly towards renewable energy, however it is not possible to entirely depend on renewable as of now or in the near future..... However, maybe the govt can implement programmes to generate awareness about renewable energy as well as distribute solar panels/encourage people to integrate solar panels into their homes. @ThePrint I think the power plants usually store the coal inventory of about 7-10 days. So unless average inventory levels are around 2-3 days for these 108 plants, it may not be as bad as it looks from data. But yeah coal prices are a concern. Secondly, i am curious whats the root cause of global prices rise... Is it that owing to lack of demand, during pandemic, the global coal production declined and subsequently it is taking a little while for coal production to match the rapid rise in demand from power plants. OR Is it the depleting coal reserves that is causing the coal futures to go up combined with current demand supply mismatch which is driving spot prices. I think this also is playing a major role in driving up of steel and aluminium prices.

Sir, to begin with - I am a paid subscriber, I value your video and I regularly pay subscription. About the Video: This is a very interesting topic. Thank you for picking up this. I would like to bring up three points which are less discussed. 1. Net Zero: Its nice to see all making effort to be Net zero but this is more aspirational than realistic. They didn't put any good effort to set up infrastructure required for "Sustainability". 2. Demand from new areas: It is wonderful seeing people coming above poverty line. There is nothing better to see overall upliftment. We would like this upliftment and progress based on hard-work and efficiency. The countries, central banks, politicians have made the money very cheap and easily available (through stimulus). It has its benefits but also flaws. We will continue seeing inflation and disruptions in future because one (money) of the 4 legs of economy (man, machine, minute) is not respected in a way it used to be. 3. Political accountability: There are no questions by anyone to the politicians who has used the power as a political tool for years. You have rightly picked up free power to farmer, free units etc. but the question is who will bell the cat?

The common thread between India and China, both facing a power crisis, is politicisation of energy. Given they are state owned prices are kept artificially low rather than adjusting to supply and demand. So while the voter benefits when crisis strikes the system is too inflexible to respond and prices surge. Or in Indias case, the can is kicked down the road and absorbed through losses from state owned companies on their balance sheet. In true Indian fashion the problem is swept under the rug then a bailout for Discoms occurs. Yet many Indians criticise capitalism because “it leads to bailouts”. The irony.

@sujoyghosh5880

This has happened due to indiscriminate privatisation of the coal blocks. The big corporates who have been alloted the coal blocks are not exploiting coal to its fullest potential. They are keeping coal in reserve waiting for heavy price rise. Then these corporate thugs are going to go for mining of coal and selling the same at huge price. This is also going to raise the electricity tariffs, cost of steel, cement etc. Thus the corporates are going to make huge profit and still would be begging for further reduction of the corporate tax. This is what Modi's economics all about. This was the reason why our late Prime Minister and Iron Lady Mrs Indira Gandhi went ahead and nationalised the coal sector. That bold step by Mrs Gandhi eliminated the coal mafia and uncouth practice of the private mine owners and the corporates. All these years Coal India has been doing well and making very good profits.

Sir, In One-way shortage of coal is a blessing in disguise. The CO2, So2 emissions restricted and in turn the green house effect can be reduced. Initially there may be a teething problems but the Governments can look for alternative energy sources like Solar energy, wind energy, seawave energy, nuclear energy etc on a sincere effort and can overcome the coal shortage within a limited time. This is because the target fixed by the countries for limiting the greenhouse effect gases emmissions is after 20-30 years later and in the meantime the globe effects severely by food crisis, frequent cyclones, severe prolonged summers, sea-level rise inundating low level lands.

Did you even watch the video?? Bringing coal from Australia is time consuming!! It would take months for India to even get coal at it's shores. Also the price of the coal is highest from 2008 level. Premium is almost 4 times!! Energy demands can only be fulfilled if we have some thing to make energy from i.e. King Coal. Most of our electricity plants(60-70%) run on coal so Hydro power alone won't do it. Unlike Germany we don't have enough solar installations/plants to counter coal shortage!! And this not somebody creating fear. This is the NEWS!! The whole world is worried right now. Especially how India and China will manufacture products when they have energy shortage on their hands!!

This is the result of paap done by politicians recently. These power companies hungry for money have tried their best to jeopardize net metering for solar powered homes. All of the country should be allowed and encouraged for net metering. This is the only way to make India energy surplus.

Remember we used to have powercuts in UPA time? Generators and UPS were high in demand. So let it come.

This episode raised multiple questions and ideas in my head. How and how much are renewables helping? Why are all metros in the country not backed up by renewables yet? Are we planning to replace entire coal-based production with renewables?

Almost 30% is on renewables most of which has been off grid (locally produced at source and used their itself) its quite commendable given the time period. However the major sources of renewables are not consistent like solar is only available in the day. Hence we need to invest in energy storage technologies so we are able to generate and store energy for future use. The fastest way to remove coal is to develop nuclear energy till new technologies develop on renewables which are able to generate more power than we need right now as with time and pace of development energy consumption goes up.

Getting renewables set up isn't easy either - look at what happens whenever a new hydro or nuclear power project gets announced, or is started No doubt lack of efficiency of the state plays a part, but still....

Renewables are like Organic farming! Everything is good only in books

@@prachetmakwana6011 also most of the renewable related technologies are just a concept or under research and development. Itll take atleast 20 years for mass scale production to begin such that we start to completely shift to non fossil energy. It may take up to 2060s to see a sizeable world wide shift to renewable sources for all it energy dependency

Srilanka has seen the dark sides of organic farming. Renewable look tempting but still no solid alternative except hydropower

World needs to spend more on Research & Development of alternatives like coal & oil. Theses fuels are finite and will eventually run out. We need unlimited source of power which can last for billions of years.
