This video is the start of something incredible. I have acylic inks n looking forward to using them AGAIN. PEOPLE just START NOW- with a scribble- dot- line- circle- START- it does get easier- no such thing as mistakes- everything you create will be unique- keep those so called mistakes- useful for later

For masking fluid, dip your brush into shampoo or dish soap then remove most of the soap onto a paper towel. Then dip the brush into the masking fluid and apply the masking fluid to your painting. When finished, quickly rinse your brush and use soap again to clean it. You will be able to use this brush many times in the future.

@@BrettLeeDyer "I love teaching through demonstrations" - Wait... isn't that what teachers should do? (Sarcasm alert) Great demonstration and much respect for teaching and navigating that water with so many potentially differing minds and backgrounds. I got a chuckle with the artist vs scientist thought processes.

Good idea not to rub your hands all over the paper because oil from your hands will repel washes and also your fingerprints can show.

Just an idea re lifting wax. If you lay clean newsprint paper or similar over the waxed portion and the apply a very warm (not too hot!) laundry iron over the top, it will often draw the wax into the newsprint. Worth a try?
@BrettLeeDyer2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! I have a small tacking iron I use for encaustic work. I will give it a try.

When I use masking fluid, I reserve some brushes in different sizes for application but I wash the brush and once it’s just damp I apply soap to the brush, so when I wash the brush after application, the rubber comes away pretty easy.

Can you use masking fluid AFTER you put Indian ink and fineline on the paper? I made a painting, outline with a fineliner and Indian ink, but I want to stain the paper with coffee. Is this possible without damaging the lines/Indian ink?
@BrettLeeDyer2 жыл бұрын
India ink is usually permanent when it dries. The fine liner marker/pen could be as well. It would depend on the brand. Masking fluid could potentially lift up the ink or tear the paper if it is applied on top of an area with ink. I would experiment with a test piece first.

Hello Great video and tutorial I bought not one but two of those Martin’s ink sets and just found them all dried out… Is there anyway to rejuvenate them… please… I’m so excited to work with ink again
@BrettLeeDyer5 ай бұрын
Thank you! You may try adding some rubbing alcohol to it; however, if it is acrylic based, it may not be possible.

To use my rubber gum with a brush, I use a synthetic hair and dip my brush in dish soap. You only need to rinse your brushes after using it and Keep those brushes for this utility!

Is there a specific kind of paper on which we make ink drawings? What kind of paper does one ask for when in a crafts store? Also, what are the ink paint brands can one ask for? Any particularly good ones?
@BrettLeeDyer2 жыл бұрын
Great questions! With ink, you can use drawing paper, mixed media paper, and watercolor paper. For ink, I like the Higgins brand and the inks I find at Daiso. Most India inks are pretty similar. I do like to use a Pentel brush pen also. It is handy and has refills.

@@BrettLeeDyer Thanks so much for your prompt response. I shall try and find these materials. And hope to introduce myself to painting with ink in the time to come.
@user-zk5cn6nr8o27 күн бұрын
A mixed media will work, but a good quality watercolor paper works better. 140 lb or heavier.
