In an exciting turn of events, India has just began to receive Google Streetview coverage! This comes after a few years' long dry-spell in which no new countries were added. While the coverage leaves something to be desired, it's so exiting to have one of the most diverse countries in the world on Geoguessr finally!!

Just an info: The 'tuktuks' in India are called autorickshaws or simply autos! Also the multiple couloured 'tuktuks' that you saw in 1 round were actually e-rickshaws. In 19:44, the other language you saw was Bengali. The poster was for a Bengali festival called Durga Puja which I guess would cater by Bengali people living in Chennai.

Don't trust the street sign too much. A lot of places follow a 3 language policy, so traffic signs maybe in English, Hindi and the state's first language. But if you don't see any language other than hindi and English then it must definitely somewhere North- central India. Also, North India does not have Coconut Palms. Eventhough there are date palms and other desert palms all over India, you'll only see Coconut palms among them in South India.

That wrong...Deccan is basalt and the soil from that is black soil which is not seen anywhere else and that's also were cotton is cultivated. A small tip: There is not much uniformity in the architecture in different areas of India. You'll see houses of all shapes and sizes and colour throughout the country, because there is no rule that you have to conform your house to a predecided design. So that's a pretty useless metric. Unless you're looking at specific architectural sites in India. There, architecture is a huge key.

There definitely is variations in architecture state to state, and definitely from the north to the south. Roofs can be a good determining factor. For sloped roofs, look for rainy areas like Kerala, Meghalaya etc. And for flat roofs, sunny regions like Chennai, Gujarat, Rajasthan etc. There is a lot to unpack here if you really wanna learn.

couple notes- Urdu and Hindi are arguably the same language it's just that urdu/pakistan uses a different script than hindi/india (no end of arguments about this tho). The indian script is usually Devanagari (the script with a line on top), while urdu's is more of a arabic-influenced one. There's also probably a lot of ways to narrow it down with more regional languages- one obvious candidate is that Bengali script is only going to be found in the east. Religiously, Hinduism is the predominant religion in most of the country, but there's substantial amounts of Christians and Muslims in for instance the east IIRC. Also, it's worth noting that Devanagari being present is very possibly not an india lock, due to some places like Fiji using it as well (indians were brought to fiji as indentured servants and as such the language is a creole known as Fiji Hindi). Rajasthan is also very dry and deserty so that might be useful
@GuardianGamerable
@GuardianGamerable 2 жыл бұрын
Muslims are everywhere, not just in the east. Many Muslims are in the South but there are millions of them in the North in Gujarat and Delhi and on cities along the Ganga as well. There's really no telling which city you're in based on the Muslim population because you could be anywhere. Christians are also found far more in the South and in cities as well.

You can find hills around most of the places in the states of Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh. But there are plain areas in the North too like the States of Punjab (where Jalandhar also was), Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Your game is also kinda tricking you, cuz they show you a backward area in a big city tricking you into thinking that its a small town or a village area or something.

places in india differ based on building, just take a closer look at how gates of each houses look like, or how well the streets look like. As an indian, i can almost tell the places based on the architecture of the city/buildings. Also population density in india varies a lot, for eg: where im from (kerala), it would be so hard to find isolated area cauz the there is always someone but if you take our neighbouring state, Tamil nadu, they might have fields spanning km just for farming. In kerala we import most of our goods from other states. Like that, there is a lot to learn even when u look at an empty land.

Soil is a great way of locating yourself. Red soil is definitely the south. Moist brown or dry sand like would likely be the north. The Delhi-NCR region has housing sectors that have a grid like structure with parks in the middle (like at 6:49). Chandigarh area has this too. (I'm not sure if this is found in other places in the country but since I'm from the north this is one observation)

Really interested for someone more experienced (and patient lol) than me to properly document this, but it seems to me like the poles are quite various between the states which could be a really interesting clue. I’ve had multiple poles in Uttar Pradesh with a yellow sticker on them, and there seems to different styles of concrete (seen both octagonal and square) and wooden poles. Also I’ve noticed some almost blocky black and yellow guard strips on the bottom of poles in the Delhi region and also kind of like a blueish pole top in a couple of cities in gujarat. Could make for some interesting guessing

I've been collecting the pole metas, it's just that the coverage is updated so often + not enough time to research every week, that's why we're not able to document them atm

Auto/ Rickshaw colour code is actually based on fuel used. Black and yellow is petrol. Green and yellow is CNG. Cng has been used for a longtime in Delhi & Northern region.. and has started spreading in South fairly recent years. Yellow auto is from Tamil nadu, Telangana area. & The colourful narrow versions are electric!! Mostly seen in Uttar Pradesh. PS,Tuktuk is a bigger sized rickshaw. Welcome to the crazy streets of India!!🎉

Another thing: The map hasn't blured out a lot of city names if you wanna spend some time looking for them You did really well tho good job

Well a tip from me would be to look on the shop banners for addresses n maybe memorise some major cities of each state in India (some states have more major cities n some have less) n there's not much coverage it's mostly in Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad n Delhi cities. You can narrow down your guesses.

A good meta would be if you see a lots of study visa ads, it's a pretty good chance you're in the state of Punjab. if the ads aren't in English you can judge the ada if they have Canadian, Aussie or Kiwi flags

This is really cool , great observations. India had stopped Google Street view surveys in 2011 allowing only a few local firms to do mapping. The National Geospatial Policy, 2021 lets Indian companies collect map data and license it to others. After this, Google has tied up with Tech Mahindra and Mumbai-based Genesys International to enable Street View for 10 Indian cities initially. This is the first time Google is working with partner data to enable this feature. In India, the data will be collected and owned by these partners.

@@hmmm713 Himalayas block the clouds that are going from left to right... So the left side of Himalayas are green and right side of Himalayas are cold desert. That is the reason Tibet and ladakh receives no rainfall at all, because clouds could not penetrate further. And talking about altitude, I don't think any tree can survive at more than 3000+ metres altitude.. And I am from a city called Shimla in himachal, it's lush and green here, and it snows too in winters(because it's in the left side of the Himalayas)
@hmmm713
@hmmm713 Жыл бұрын
@@HighAltitudeEnjoyer oh I just learned something. Thanks. And I just realised ladakh is mostly to the right of the Himalayas, I usually just think of the Himalayas as being basically the border of India to the north. And of course the altitude is a key factor too for the trees. And the left of the Himalayas thing, that explains why when I recently saw a vlog of j&k and ladakh, I noticed kashmir being a bit more green.

I've learned to read Urdu, Hindi, and some other scripts, and I would say learning to read Devanagari is fairly straightforward but it can take a while to properly memorize. I think something like Cyrillic can be done in a day, and Arabic is more like a couple of weeks to be somewhat comfortable (but you'll still be reading very slowly). For Devanagari a week should be enough, but you will lose it very fast without upkeep, though after a while most of it should stick. Sporcle has some good quizzes on the Devanagari alphabet; try both sound to letter and letter to sound quizzes. This is a quick way to memorize the alphabet. There are a good number more letters than English, and some are odd and rarely used, etc, but for the most part it is incredibly regular and uncomplicated. It is an abugida so it has a different way of treating vowels from Latin, but this is also pretty simple. Also practice reading stuff of course, on Geoguessr or wherever else. I think it's even possible in a day to be passably literate, if someone is a bit of a masochist. Overall not exactly easy but not really a long-term commitment either, unlike learning to read Chinese, lol.

Bruhh it's difficult even for the Indians, same language in Maharashtra, Delhi and a few other states + idk other languages. Tuk Tuk guesses are on point tho. And you are right about the trucks aswell, they are moving all over the country so can't consider those. And one last thing, farm lands are almost every where in the country and they look exactly the same, study about soil color might help.
