He had no confidence in Umesh Yadav that's why he refused to take single, he had thought he would hit boundaries in the next over and win the match. But he found out that he's not able to hit shots in the next over so started craving for singles.

People might have forgotten, Varun Aaron was India's first tear away fast bowler out of IPL Cricket. He had raw pace, and used to clock easy 150 KMPH, and had once hit Stuart Broad on his face through his helmet, and that is most probably one of the core reasons that Broad couldn't be the batsman he promised to be. Alas, he didn't get much of a backing, but then he is still good for IPL Cricket for sure.

indian bowling has really come a long way from varun aarons and ashok dindas to now Bumrah and siraj. Even with them out injured, india had the depth in their pool to come out victorous against Australia in Australia in tests. Amazing turn around!
