Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Russia on Monday, as the Indian leader treaded a fine line between maintaining a longstanding relationship with Moscow and courting closer Western security ties. The visit is Modi's first since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine and since he was returned to power last month as leader of the world's most populous country.

India is an emerging and rapidly progressing country, instead of joining Western block or Russo-China block India have the stature of making its own block. And just as USA goes to any extent to fulfill its national interests India will fulfill its national interests too. There is a war in India’s neighbourhood-Myanmar! There are wars going on in Yemen, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Ukraine as well. It’s understandable that Europe only thinks about the war in its neighbourhood that affects them directly but ignores the other wars! Same way, for India, we need to focus on our neighbourhood to maintain peace! We have sympathy for Ukraine as well as other countries in conflict but we can’t start breaking relations with other strategic countries which would hurt India! No country does that!

@@timallison8560 Unfortunately that's true 😂 India helped stabilise the oil market which was disrupted by western sanctions, half of this oil India brought from Russia was supplied back to the western countries they were the top buyers and for a whole year India supplied West more oil than Saudi Arabia. Have you wonder why no western countries were putting sanctions on India beside slamming it for buying Russian oil ? Cause they were busy buying oil from India it's too embarrassing for western media to report it's like accepting sanctions backfired we kept it secret and made a tons of billions.

Most of the “sanctions” are US or EU based, not based on UN. So India doesn’t have to abide by any of that. India looks weak if it lets US dictate its foreign policy or trade relations. Modi, for all his faults, knows what’s good for India.

Why don't the western countries stop buying Indian oil refined using Russian crude? tldr - to keep inflation in their own economies low. If India stopped buying Russian oil then the cost of crude oil would skyrocket. This would also increase inflation in western countries. India is actually helping the western countris offset bad consequences that might happen in their pursuit of crushing Russia and it's economy.
