Indeed, from 1000s of year we hv been known as Bharat only. India wasn't given by British only, actually there is a River in Western part of India, called Sindhu River & because of which West Asians started calling our country as "Hind" still known in west Asia as of today & people living east of that River were known as Hindus (it's a geographical identity, not popularly known as religious one). Communications with europeans used to happen through west Asia, so Europeans may be because of language barrier started calling our country as India inplace of Hind in english, Inde in french
