I suggested HV DC links between countries (round the globe) as a way of sharing Solar & Wind generation (rather than endless high maintenance battery systems). Good idea I thought, but I got no likes. India is doing it the smart way, well done.

A channel like yours helps open eyes of many Indians on how this country is actually developing and growing far from the politics as usual in power corridors.... There are many a channels of this type for projects being conceptualised and implemented in other countries.... We need KZfaqrs like you to build the confidence and belief of Indians in their own capabilities....

The key thing is that its a Pulsed DC like a giant switching Power supply (Square Waves vs Sinusoidal Waves - Capacitive vs Inductive). Its much more storable with control of direction in power flow. Capacitive vs Inductive Most modern gizmos are already DC charging Li-Cd-Zc battery items (computer chip based IoT to power tools). I understand India is providing 12VDC to the homes plus higher voltage if required (more affluent). Even refrigerators are now DC servo based variable speed compressors.

HVDC is capable to interlinked to different power -frequency AC (50hz) zone. It is very much helpful to transmit bulk amount of power from one zone to another zone. It is a very much stable system. Power is transmitted using ultra high-voltage DC. First AC power is transformed in DC ,then transmitted in the another power-zone where DC power is again converted into AC power. DC medium has been used for intermediate transmission(tie-line). It is very much helpful. by means of HVDC transmission system , you can even connect a 50Hz. AC zone and a 60 HZ AC zone. which is impossible with pure AC transmission system.

Less loss over large backbone power-lines. They take 6 phase AC. and channel it though Silicon Controlled Rectifiers SCRs. They still need to filter it though huge capacitors and inductors. Then they convert it back to AC close to the source. with a similar setup.

But bro when we talk about length something around 500km after that Ac supply is not going to save our money it takes more money to transmit power and also in Ac when we connect two area we need to maintain frequency constant. But on the other hand we need to use some power semiconducting devices to convert generating Ac to Dc at the generating and disturbing end which may increase some cost but not that much if we compare to Ac.

I don't understand why they are using DC instead of AC. The video pointed out that DC requires less infrastructure to operate, but the main advantage of AC is that power can be distributed over long distances with much less power loss. Yes, it will be cheaper to build, but the power losses will probably end up costing more in the long run in the form of lost revenue. Also, don't most home appliances and electronics require AC? That would require that each home would have to convert the DC to AC before it could be used. What am I missing?
