During PM Modi's visit to Russia, it was announced that the Russian State Atomic Energy Agency, Rosatom, is in discussions with Delhi to construct six high-power nuclear units as part of a new project. Rosatom's CEO, Alexei Likhachev, mentioned that the company is also exploring the development of low-power nuclear plants in India. In addition, India received information on floating nuclear power plant solutions in April 2024. Here’s a Ground report from Gaurav Sawant.

@@raghupathimvraghu8662 Chernobyl was a 1970's designed reactor and the accident happened in mid 80's. Since then there have been several major design changes and safety features. With people like you, airlines wouldn't exist after the first few airplanes crashed in the 1910's. Cowards.

Nuclear energy is definitely larger and more reliable than dilute and intermittent renewable energy. Advanced technologies can make nuclear reactors safer and prevent or minimize leaks and disasters. Nuclear energy is especially important to India as it will lower electricity prices and reduce our dependence on rare earth metals imported from mostly China.

Solar Wind and Battery would be lower cost. Solar wind and battery can be built for millions and take years to finish, Nuclear Power takes billions of dollars and requires decades. Then the nuclear plant will run around 30 years (which is typical) and you have a high level spent fuel problem that needs to be buried for 10,000 years. However, the DOE hasn't approved transport routes, transport casks, or a national repository after 60 years of trying. No one is willing to expend the political capital to get this done. The result is we have 92 nuclear power stations with high level spent fuel "temporarily" stored in their backyards.

we don't have nuclear waste storage yet. Deals without proper infrastructure and planning is a waste one. Regarding the fertilizer tons of food wastes are being thrown into bins and sewages daily. Why no proper arrangement to collect them and make fertilizers? why to spend more money in importing tons of chemical fertilizers rather than developing infrastructure for making fertilizers in all parts of India. Development of farming and farmers are the real development. Chemical fertilizers kills the soil in long run.
