Secularism in religion is not a sound argument. You can find many ideas and points which is seen as secular in religious scriptures whether it is geeta,quran,bible,..At the same time you will find things that is completely opposite to secular ideas of an modern human being. It is better not to involve religion. Ideas like liberty equality and fraternity came from self conscious mind of human.

Secularism is separation of state and religious institutions which means religious and state institutions should not interfere with each other's functioning. India has never had secularism to begin with. What this panel was debating over is what I call the tolerance and acceptance of all religions which is called pluralism and not secularism. Yes, we have had pluralism for centuries bcos Hinduism is inherently pluralist while Islam is fascist. If Islam were to become dominant religion in India, you can kiss pluralism and tolerance a big goodbye. Your future generations will be forced to convert just like in Paksitan

In India secularism means the freedom to abuse Hindus. To be secular means i do not have the right to question an imported 7th century sect's very questionable tenets. Having worked for more than 4 decades in the Middle Eastern deserts I can say that no Beduoin ever asked me my religion but only my nationality. But here we see a half- Italian screaming in rallies about caste and the so called secular parties dividing my country into absurd acronyms like OBC , ST, BC etc. And to say on a public podium that Mamta Banerjee is the epitome of secularism is not only absurd but obnoxious.Every speaker for the motion like ignorant speakers like Asutosh spoke against Hindus.

He refused to participate in somnaath temple's inauguration called it against secularism knowing the unfortunate history of the temple. 2. He introduced waqf board. 3. There is need to redifine the term secularism. Secularism can not be expected from majority only. Other also has to understand the the true meaning of secularism. Secularism does not not mean practice appeasement policy, allowing others to have their own law. Since independence there has been misconceptions on secularism. Allowing All india muslim personal law board, overturning the Shah Bano case, showing only part of Nupur Sharma and not showing what salmani says, silence of minority on terrorist attack of course will not strengthen the principles of secularism.

The word secularism itself inserted with appeasement in mind and not there in the constitution of Dr Ambedkar. Here the secularism practiced by opposition parties is respect minority sentiments and keep silent when Hindu sentiments are hurt. Such secularism is not at all required. The requirement is the attitude of treating all religions equal .

Ironically, the last speaker, in fact reiterated that as long as Sanaatanis are up and strong, Secularism can't be lost in Bharat. It's because, every Sanaatani, including our beloved PM, are every moment of their lives aware of the foundational ideology that keeps reverberating in their hearts and minds, despite the differences in their isth devata, pooja forms, etc., very well/aptly put out in a famous, beautiful Telugu rendering which is played/sung during rituals in TTD temple ( Tirupati Balaji temple) ' Bhaavamulona bhaagyamulaanulu, Govinda Govinda.... '. What the sanaatanis sing before their deity, echoes secularism in its most beautiful form. People interested can search a KZfaq video to learn more about the song.

Complete separation of religion from the government. When states controls temples then by definition India is not a secular country....

Sure Shama Muhammad...Nehru never mixed religion with politics. He was just scared of Hindu revivalism which would have been dangerous to his brand of politics and hence he opposed Dr Rajendra Prasad when he wanted the Somnath temple to be renovated. And Riju Dutta when you say that how can citizenship be based on religious lines you need to remember that partition happened not on any socio cultural or economic lines but purely religious lines. So the response to the same has to be on religious lines

1. First of all Rahul Kanwal deserves kudos for conducting this debate in such an efficient manner. A welcome departure from the run of the mill shouting matches that pass off as debates on our national English and Hindi channels, where truth, logic and reasoning get buried in the cacophony of hollow rhetoric. 2. As to what is one's understanding of secularism, there could have been some more elaboration. That would have taken the discussion to 'what should be' rather than 'what is'. Another 5 to 6 minutes each for the teams as well as the jury and one more participant on either side would have brought in some more depth to the debate. 3. All in all a very well conducted debate that sets an example of how it ought to be conducted. 4. Shehzad Poonawala's articulation is of a very high order. 5. Finally it is great to get a confirmation from a wider audience that secularism is an enduring quality of our social and cultural ethos, inherited from thousands of years.
