India batted first but Sachin got out early for just 8 runs. Still India posted a huge total of 309 and in reply, Australia were cruising at 202/3 in 31 overs when Tendulkar came on to bowl
One by one Sachin kept sending the Australian batsmen back to the pavilion and the Aussies had no answer to Sachin clever and intelligent bowling variations.
Sachin picked up 5 wickets for 32 runs in 10 overs - an absolutely brilliant 5-wicket haul to win the match for India despite failing with the bat.
Sachin 5/32 vs Australia at Kochi 1998 is Sachin Tendulkar best bowling figures in ODI and also among Sachin Tendulkar best wickets of all time.

Elan sir 1998 was one of his best year in terms of batting he scored more than 1200 odi runs this year ...3 odi centuries out of 7 in 1998.... His fitness really helped him becoz at the age of 35(in 1998) playing that much good ... No.1 fielder throughout his career

First ever ODI @ Kochi April 1 1998, We (Keralites) all wondered how the crowd and the players survived the hot and humid climate. Many of my friends who went for the match came back like black Coal after spending the entire day in sun with temperature going up to 42 degree C . Remembered for the best bowling figures by the worlds best batsmen of that time, 32-5. Also for the fist look of the thin and nippy Ajith Agarkar.

Still remember just Came from School Aussies were 3 Down and Waugh and Bevan Cruising , Sachin bowled a spell of his life and Turned the tables no wonder what main bowlers couldn't do he could do !!! If not for his injury and personal issues he would have been a huge asset in 1999 WC bowling ,his bowling he could have dismissed few batsman his bowling could have been handy he may have decieved the batsman using the flight and Mongia could have stumped them !!! Guess we didn't use him properly there :(

Actually 26/3. I remember that match. We lost Sachin, Dravid and Ganguly. Then Azhar and Jadeja made 275 together to take India to 301/3. Azhar scored 153* And Jadeja 116*. There was a flick shot that Azhar played through Midwicket for a boundary, A back of Length ball outside off stump that raised almost to his chest height.

This is the first one day International in Kochi. The entire area was filled with festival like atmosphere with drums and what not. And at humidity of 89% This would be the toughest playing conditions in cricket. Imagine those crowd who watched this in boiling temperature. This was the first day of my 12th exam.

Have fond memories from this match.. Ajay Jadeja century, Azharuddin's stroke play, Gilchrist's fiery batting and Tendulkar's match winning 5 wicket haul.. best part being the caught and bowled.. Such a memorable tri-series.. Zimbabwe gave a tough fight to both the teams.. India were awesome in all the games.. too bad India lost the Final as it wasn't their day against the Aussies on a sluggish Kotla surface..

Debut match of Ajit Agarkar , what a turning point Sachins bowling turned out to be :) if I remember Ganguly was Banned for 1 odi for expressing his anger vs lbw given by Umpire in Banglore test of the bowling of Robinson !!!! So this game Sidhdhu opened with Sachin :)

Mean how many times Ganguly has been banned for expressing dissent against an umpire's decision?? If I am not mistaken he was banned for a match in the Coca Cola Cup tri-series in Colombo for a similar reason!!

@@ajeebdastaaan396 yeh he was Banned but many questioned Sanath also expressed it but he wasn't punished the same series , once he was given wrong out by Ashoka De Silva he frowned and got fined , same he did against Simon taufell during 2007 , And he was Banned for 1 ODI vs Zim when he expressed his anger against Umpire for his decision he was Banned in the last ODI !!!! In 2001 !!!

Not worst he was a decent player but wasn't used properly fault on him also he didn't use his chances he could have been a useful allrounder, he got man of the match in next game at Vadodra vs Zimbabwe!!! He could have been sent ahead for certain games and we would have seen a better player in him!!!! His debut test match he scored a beautiful 45 !!!!
