Tibetan here. I always carry couple of kilos of Tsampa on all my Himalayan treks here in Uttarakhand. It’s indeed a superfood. Instant energy and can be had with anything. You can add bit of Tsampa in your pack of Knorr soup and you got yourself a high caloric Tsam-Thuk(Thukpa) meal.

I actually had a segment about using Tsampa to make Thukpa ( with atta, dry vegetables, churrpi etc). But decided to save that for a future video

Tsampa is a staple food for Tibetans and for a person with busy life like me, throw a bit of Tsampa into mixer with almond milk and mixture of goji berries, pistachios and kajus and smoothie is produced to keep you running until late lunch

From *KARGIL*. Sir, i think we called it *KHULAAK* in *kargil* make by barley powder. But today’s new generation are forgetting the habit to eat khulaak, it is very heavy food to digest, (whosever immune system is weak, they get difficult to digest it and could make stomachache) so mostly new generation do skip to eat such rich and powerful meal and nowadays everyone is looking for fast-food which is poisonous to our health actually. I also now don’t eat khulaak regularly. *khulaak’s* taste depends on how it makes, when a good level of sugar and butter or ghee it tastes more, ( but personally i like it with salty tea and good level of ghee or local ghee without sugar.) and it is not necessary to have tea for making khulaak, it can make also with milk with sugar tastes better. Hamare buzrugu ka kahawat hai hmey kaha krte the. “Kehte the ek hath khulaak khaye to ek pahaad ⛰ chadd saktey hai” “If you eat just a palm equal of khulaak you could climb a mountain ⛰ “ This is how much the khulaak is powerful 💪🏿

Interesting. I have never seen anyone eat it along with milk before. But we have different type of Sattu in Tamil Nadu and we usually drink it like Horlicks with milk and sugar. So maybe the taste is similar.

Greetings from Washington DC! Watching your videos brings back many happy memories. I learned to eat Tsampa in outer Tibet (Amdo and Kham) or what the Chinese call Qinghai and Northwestern Sichuan. The monks showed me how to prepare the balls. I now make it here at home. I have everything but the sweet smell of yak dung used to boil the tea. :) Anyhow, your videos are so full of tenderness, patience and joy. Danyavad and Tujiche for sharing your life with us.

You have rightly mentioned two most important things to remember during solo hikes, nutrition and morale.
